SS or FS for Michael Huff?

What's the consensus?

Is Michael Huff potentially a better fit at FS from a play making standpoint or is he more valuable in the role he plays now?
 
I realize we all want more 'explosion' plays out of Huff, but locking down top tier TE's in this league is hard to ignore.

I honestly don't know.
 
As much as he's not a box safety, I really dread the idea of pulling him away from his Gates/Gonzalez duties. In the other 12 games of the year, fine. We need him over the TE those 4 games regardless of all else.
 
Huff is obviously stronger in coverage and we have solid CB's and we are weak against the run. It seems obvious to me that we need a guy who can play near the LOS and lay some hits. I was hoping it would be D.Darius... few years too late. Huff is a hell of a player IMO and he would make more plays if he were allowed to roam around. But we like to cover the super nasty TE's in our division with him so i have no problem with that. Basically we need a Roy Williams type SS. Stu can stay and play on obvious passing downs.
 
You might be in luck. Dallas would love to get Roy Williams the hell out of their secondary.
 
Considering Strong Safety the guy over the TE, I call him the Strong Safety.

To continue having him cover the TE we need a "FS" who can cover the deep middle and provide more than a little run support.

Hiram Eugene was decent in providing deep support and didn't miss a tackle that I remember. He's already better than Stu.

If we clean up the front four, we can continue to manage the back seven the way we do. It's time to improve the front four.

For all the grief Stu gets... Huff's tackling isn't much better.
 
Oh come on, Huff's tackling is much better, but that isn't saying it's anything other than average.
 
I am sorry but Huff isn't cutting it in my book, the reason Gonzo didn't get a more touches wasn't primary because of Huff. Gonzo was double teamed alot and the pressure on Croyle was helping out him not getting the ball, also the fact they had a srub RB gashing out huge runs helps pad the Defensive stats on Gonzo as well.
Huff just doesn't tackle well maybe he is hanging around Stu to much. I expected more from him at this point and the INT he got was a gift. I Really don't care where he plays next year as long as he plays better and we have another S that is a Stud!!!!

Stu gets the "highlight" missed tackles but Huff spends more than enough time diving at ankles and looking up at from the turf as RB's gash our defense.
 
Most of Huff's whiffs are near the LOS in traffic. Harder to justify missing those tackles, IMO. But, he's no worse than our LBs this year. Undisciplined play behind an untalented line.

Most are, but he still has his share of downfield, open tackle whiffs.

I've yet to see a pair of safeties tackle worse this season.

Watch a good team like the Steelers and Colts. Those guys nail you....And wrap up.
 
Good coaching leads to good play. Maybe Kiffin's boy Oberon can do what Ryan couldn't.
 
Did he have tackle problems in college? Just i remember fans of other teams eg burntorangehorn saying he was a great pick
 
He has been more or less decent at SS, but I think he may be stellar as a FS. He is way much faster and makes better decisions than Stu. He also could make more plays.

He was drafted very high, and I'm sure nobody would trade a 6th overall for him right now, so he still has to deliver lot more game.
 
If shutting down three Pro Bowl, and at least one of them being HOF, ain't enough for you than I don't know what is. We don't double team the tight ends very often and most of the time Huff is stuck with the coverage. Dude is nails in coverage and is a fine tackler IMO. Is he worth the 7th pick in the draft? No, but he's one of our bright spots on defense if you ask me.

How bout: Sound fundamentals lead to good play.

Huff's major knock coming out was his poort tackling technique and his meager attempts at going high on bigger players...

I give him credit for sticking his nose in there, but at some point the dude has to start tackling. Period.

It looked to me like Huff was mostly in the box sunday, with his pick coming 3 yards off the LOS.

I like how he cover's TE's well, but that doesnt mean we arent using him completely wrong, IMO.

How I longed for Kiwanuka or Ngata (Although Huff is growing on me)
