Mark Jackson joins Raiders as Director of Football Development

For a minute, I thought it was the Mark Jackson of Bronco fame. Another Kiffen hire. I don't know much about the guy but you have to like the fact that Al is acquiescing to Kiffen on these appointments.

If you read the article, it seems that this guy is an organizer/administrator type with an emphasis on media relations.

I'm sure almost all of us agree that we could use a better Propagandist, errr, Media Relations person.

Once again, we have to give Al Davis some credit here. He has changed his philosophy completely from "Old Guard" leadership, to "Next Generation" leadership.

It's now fully on the players. I hope that whining about coaching, organization, etc will cease. From players and fans.

I first thought of Mark Jackson of NBA fame.

True enough.

Al's delivered on every criticism I've had save drafting the QB. Frankly, unless he totally goes left field with the number one pick, I don't think I'll think any less of what he's done this off-season even if we don't take Russell or Quinn.

The Trojanfication of the Raiders continues!... :D

Working closely with Raiders Head Coach Lane Kiffin on all operational aspects of the football team, Jackson will be involved in a number of areas including personnel evaluation, coaching staff decisions, media relations and overall administrative functions of the football team.

Sounds an awful lot like he'll be Kiffen's right hand man...

This truly does seem like a transformation. We have yet to see the end result, but it is hard to argue with the approach that is being taken.

Well at least Cable spent a couple of years at UCLA. :)

honestly... I'm excited about our hires. Its a lot better then Tom Walsh and a bunch of retreads.

I honestly feel optimistic going into the season for a change. Remember it was only a few weeks back that we were entertaining the likes of Jim Fassel, John Shoop as potential hires.

Hell yeah. Reading that just made me feel better.

That ain't no shit.

How many USC assistants (or someone affiliated with them ), does that make now?

I wonder if all this is building towards the draft in '07 and '08.

We pass on Russell this year and take AP. Next year we try to land John David Booty?

Just a thought..

UCLA is also well represented here as well.

Obviously the USC influence is the focal point, but it seems like a Pac10 amalgamation to me.

Moss to Green Bay for Aaron Rodgers it is then. We drop down in the first and draft Lynch, pick up Miller and Kalil in the second and go from there....

Marc Jackson was a good passer in the NBA.

I don't know if he is very good at Football media relations though.
