Mark Davis — just leave!

So Mark wants a president of football operations and his genius idea is to hire somebody in six years with no experience or resume to speak of and train them himself. JFC. Telesco would have been the better choice.
Well, to be fair, the way I read the article, the second half is the journalist speculating about what role Brady might fill. And it's in that context that the President of Football Operations is mentioned.

And that's a full-time role, so I can't see either Brady or Davis thinking it realistic.

I do agree that Telesco might have been a good choice for it. Perhaps in the future he'll move more into that role with Kelly moving more into the GM role? Who knows.

What was the exact hit on Snake?

The Zimmerman reference to gambling? I wouldn't put it past the league.
I doubt it was the gambling thing. That would be acknowledging it and until recently, the League avoided any mention of gambling. Even when it was overt.

But I wondered about what she was referring to - perhaps his exclusion from the HoF? Seemed to me that had more to do with the writers than the League, although of course, the two sometimes go hand in hand.

Problem with the plan is that it's gonna take a long time to materialize.

Other teams tear down and rebuild in 2-3 years. We're on year 35 and still treading water.
True. But if there can be better direction and more cohesion in years to come, that's no bad thing. Has to start somewhere.

The two ex-players getting a foothold in the organisation is a positive, from what I can see. As I've long banged on about on here, I'd like to see more of them, each with a half or one percent. Maybe some long-term Raiders, like Woodson.

I had to reread it. I misread it. If Mark does want a football operations guy he should have one by now. I hope the writer is wrong and that is not the position Mark envisions for Brady. Get a real guy in here. I don't think Mayock is doing anything.

Yeah.

My only thought is, that a post like that is going to be different in every organisation. There's no one approach to it and so difficult to describe it and find the person to fill it. So it may well be something that develops a little organically and I'm sure that the likes of Brady and Seymour and Telesco would have input to that discussion. Because the alternative is Mark scoping it and appointing the person, and as he himself has acknowledged, he doesn't have the knowledge to do that. Not even with Kingdon sitting alongside him ...

So maybe the total structure of the organisation is on the agenda for this off-season and all will be involved in the conversation. And as I said (and you said earlier), I'd not object to it being Telesco, though of course, that's saying that without knowing the scope of the role.

Yeah.

I am on record as not being a fan of Telesco as GM but I think his play it safe demeanor and background could be a good fit for a VP of football operations role. It seems that something has to change because whatever we have been doing for the past 32 years isn't working. Ideally for me it would include a hard separation of powers instead of the blurred lines we have all seen in the recent past. Collaboration is good but the no clear decider is bad.

I think the only realistic options for the Raiders is for Mark to pay top dollar for proven/highly sought after commodities. It's basically how the dipshit York kid in SF finally was able to get out of his own way. Depending on him to identify a diamond in the rough is a fool's errand. Seems like he'll pay the money for the someone he wants but either has no interest in conventionally attractive candidates, or they have no interest in him.

I’m concerned about roles “growing organically”

This might breed confusion and dysfunction within the organization

I get that. Obviously the reported disagreements between McDaniels and Ziegler are testament to that.

But I meant 'grow organically' in terms of discussing the role and its remit. Not after appointment.

"Interestingly enough, Brady once trained with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders at the behest of his father, Deion, and later signed the younger Sanders to an NIL deal with Brady’s apparel brand in 2022."

I wonder if this become problematic? I could see how it could be viewed as potential tampering.

Not the mentoring/training but the NIL involvement.
I think his role in things like that will get limited. Even on fox he’s not allowed to go in to team practices from what I heard

He's not even allowed to do pregame interviews with players or coaches.

I don't know how it could be a problem he wasn't connected to the Raiders at the time.

I would like to know when and for how long Brady trained Shedeur though.
