Let the Free Agency Jihads begin!

WR
Bernard Berrian is a legitimate deep threat whose game has become a little more well rounded this season. He's exactly the type of wide out we need to take advantage of Ja's arm, and would be a terrific compliment to Curry.

He's going to want a nice chunk of cash. But he's young, has very reliable hands, and is a true 4.3 guy whose timed speed shows up on the field.

Bryant Johnson, while not special in any area, would solidify our #3 position.

Patrick Crayton. Just a good all around WR. But, the odds of Jerry Jones letting him get away are minimal. He's going to get well paid, and Al's not likely to go for it even if he would consider coming here.

Ernest Wilford is a guy I like more than most. Not fast by any stretch. But he's big, has pretty good hands, and would be a nice redzone weapon. He also wouldn't cost as much as some other "name" WRs.


Devery Henderson never really panned out in New Orleans and probably won't be invited back. I'm all for giving him a look, though. Big time speed. Maybe a younger Alvis Whitted. Maybe could turn into something more with Ja' lobbing the ball downfield.

Corey Williams is about to have his second jihad amongst the Oakland faithful.

Brian Young. Pretty decent DT for the Saints. Represents an upgrade.

Albert Haynesworth: The Head Stomper.

Terrell Suggs...if only.

Justin Smith may get tagged again. If not...maybe?

Jared Allen is another guy who'll be fun to talk about...until he gets tagged.

Tyson Thompson is Dallas' 3rd string guy. He's shown some skill and they probably won't make much effort to retain him unless they trade Julius Jones. Could be a gem.

Ron Dayne. Hey. He kicked our ass, and he knows the blocking scheme.

Jesse Chatman could make a nice platoon back.

Mewelde Moore. I still really like this guy.

Michael Turner would be great. Too bad it'll never happen.

Alan "By God" Faneca just became my #1 FA jihad. What a difference this cat could make.

Chris Kemoeatu never really developed the way some thought he would. But, he's still a nasty bastard and we could use that around here.

Sean Locklear would certainly represent an upgrade.

Any of the DE's will work but none of them will move on.
I would like Haynesworth or Corey Williams in the D-line.

I love Berrian. Dude just makes catches and has experience as a winner. But not really "jihad" material.

Crayton is sick! I'd love to see this guy in the ol' Silver and Black, he's better than ANY WR we have on the roster now.

Really, on this list I see ONLY 3 "jihad" type players.

(in order of who I want)

1) Allen Faneca- He is a key cog in the Steelers inside run game and aguably the best guard in the AFC. A tad long in the tooth, but he would be instrumental as locker room leader and a part time coach with the Mario Henderson, Jake Grove and Paul McQuistan types. Any cost, get him!!

2)Albert Haynesworth- Yes, he'll be tagged. Yes, he'll be expensive. Yes, he will cost us draft picks. But as pourous as our run defense has been and as poor as our pass rush has been, his abilty to eat up blockers and free up the big pass rush and stuff the run is worth it. It isnt like we will be able to draft a player that is as much a lock as Big Albert. Remember, with draft picks it is always a gamble, with thos route, we pretty much know what we are getting.

3)Jered Allen- I make the same argument with Allen as I do with Haynesworth, except he'll be more valuable in the pass rush area than the run department. Isn't this guy a NoCal native and Raiders fan as well? His trouble are behind him and all he does is kill QB's day in, day out! On top of that, we score him and our QB is safer for 2 games a year and KC loses their best defender!


If we do nothing this offseason, landing AT LEAST one of these guys is a must. I prefer, if we do land one of these 3, to go by way of what is left of our draft to fill holes at WR, RB and SAFETY!

Berrian is the sexiest one to me. Maybe Kiffin can use the Fresno State connection to git 'er done.

Faneca and some of the others are probably long shots but I don't think Haynesworth would be if they overpay. Which, I'd probably be cool doing at this point because the draft isn't going to be enough, especially when they don't have a third rounder because they had to move up and get Higgins or Henderson. I forget which, but at this point of the seasons they may as well switch positions and none of us would know the difference. God, I can't believe those were this team's third-round picks. And, of course, Moses.

I don't think any of the receivers on that list are legit #1's but could compliment what we already have. Was hoping that Higgins would have given us the down field threat we sorely lack but I wouldn't be surprised if Al made a run at Chad Johnson this offseason, but he will undoubtedly cost us a high first day pick and/or some players.

I'd like to see us add two FA OL this offseason, Faneca may be a bit rich for our blood. I'd look to someone like Ryan Lilja or one of the aforementioned linemen. Then use the draft to bring in an additional body or two, maybe a center. I think Cornell Green and Cooper Carlisle are adequate and hopefully Mario Henderson can develop into the LT we sorely need.

Like some here, I'm a bit hesitant to pull the trigger on Al Haynesworth for fear he'll pull a Big Terd on us but the options are somewhat limited unless we go for a Glen Dorsey who we'll probably be in a good position to pick.

Jared Allen, while I'd love to have him, is basically a pipe dream. We'll have to pay a kings ransom for him. It would be much more cost efficient to bring in Howie Jr who is a tremendous all around DE that we can play opp Burgess. Use our second rounder on someone like Tom Zbikowski who can play either safety position and our secondary should be complete.

If there's a better defensive tackle than Albert Haynesworth in the game right now I'd like to see him. Landing that whale would go a LONG way to fixing this pours run defense we've go going. It may be unrealistic but if it's possible I say we do what we have to and get him.

IMO we're going to need to pay for two top FA lineman and bring them here.

Ideally there would be one on offense and one on D, but two on one side a the ball would work too. We're going to have to have two studs on each side to build these lines around. If we have that our current scrubs would probably be enough to fill the gaps and give us decent line play on both sides of the ball.

We don't have the time, we don't have the picks, and frankly, I don't trust Al to make it happen through the draft. he needs to use his 20/20 on current NFL players and pay to bring them in.

Berrian's not bad. He seems tp consistently make plays downfield, and with horrible QBing too.

I don't want any part of Devery Henderson, that guy's a heartbreaker and a waste of time IMO... terrible hands.

I agree with this... As big of a fan as I am of Faneca, I'd rather throw the big money at an OT instead... I've heard it mentioned that Carolina wanted to extend Jordan Gross, but I don't see him listed as a FA anywhere... If he is, he should be a priority #1, signed at 12:01am the first day of free agency type of signing IMO... He's a great pass blocker that can play either tackle spot who's average run block skills will be covered up by the scheme...

My top FA priorities would be:

1) Jordan Gross
Hopefully Mario can lock down the OT spot opposite...

2) Eugene Wilson/Gibril Wilson
I'm tired of dicking around in the draft hoping that a guy develops... get a vet in to play next to Huff... I've heard Brian Dawkins can opt out after this year... If that's true, I would love to have his leadership back there for a few years...

3) Someone that can play NT in our soon to be put in 34 defense ... I can see why Green Bay didn't want to trade Corey Williams, he's playing like one tough sucker... I wasn't aware that he was a FA, but I'd take him... Otherwise Randy Starks would work for me...

The WR pool is pretty meh... I'd still take a look at Antonio Bryant myself..

Dawkins is and Eagle for life. He would never leave Philly. He loves Philly. I do agree with Jordan Gross however. He would be a great pick-up. I also am down with Berrian and thinkg Henderson drops too many passes.

Haynesworth and Jared Allen are both staying where they are at. We might as well kill all that talk early. Haynesworth is playing like the best DT in the NFL right now. Peterson said J.Allen isnt going anywhere and they would franchise him if need be. We should be more realistic. The draft is the only place to find a stud D-Lineman.

Berrian would be a sweet pick-up. He fits a need bigtime. I could see him wanting to test the market and leave the whack QB situation in CHi.

It's true that stud D-lineman rarely leave via free agency... infact I'm having trouble thinking of a superstar defensive lineman in his prime that has been allowed to walk.

Other than Reggie White I can't think of any dominators.

Seems like guys will be good, dominate for a year or two, then fall back to just being good... I dunno if that's becasue they're fat, lazy fucks or what?

my gripe with Haynesworth is that we havent really seen him perform like this until this year, which just so happens to be a contract year

if we can get Haynesworth to play a NT role, i'd love to draft Calais Campbell and play Tommy Kelly at UT while sapp works the situational pass rush

but i still say Faneca is easily at the top of my list for now

Some news on a couple of our own pending free agents....

• According to a pair of scouts who spoke with PFW recently, Raiders QB Daunte Culpepper has done little in his time with the Raiders this season to give other teams much confidence in his value on the free-agent market next spring. “Culpepper was never the most mobile guy,” said one AFC scout. “But to me, he looks more stiff and robotic and mechanical moving around the pocket. He just looks tight moving around, and I don’t think he’s all the way back from that knee yet. He was never Michael Vick, but at least he could move around a little more. He can’t even make the subtle shifts in the pocket. You just don’t see it.”

• Raiders sources say there is little to no chance the team will allow CB Nnamdi Asomugha, considered a rising star at the position, to leave as a free agent next offseason, and that they would consider the idea of using the franchise tag, if necessary. He is the team’s top priority for the offseason.

• The Raiders saw the return of Gerard Warren at practice this week from a thigh injury he suffered during the team’s bye in Week Five, and it couldn’t have come as a better time with Tommy Kelly’s season-ending injury. Warren, acquired in a preseason trade with Denver, was surprisingly the team’s most disruptive defensive lineman before getting hurt.
