ON the NFLN they just said Lane may want to go coach the Razorbacks...

Just thought I'd give a heads up.

Schefter was saying that he has the trust of alotta players, but may not have the trust of everyone in the "building" (Al of course).

What a fucked up rumor, they started off by saying that Kiff may be one and done, but becasue he wants to go... then talked about all the coaches that have been run outta here after a short tenure.

Sounds like the Gruden thing all over again.

Yeah, I dunno if I believe it, just sucks that a rumor like this is starting to fly halfway thu the damn season... and I think it is indicative of the kinda treatment Al gives coaches.

Al's ways of doing things are starting to break down in every area of this franchise.

BTW, they actually said it is looking like Kiff really wants the job.. I mean, they didn't just say it was a rumor, but it looked like it was something he wanted at this point :rolleyes:

Some reports have mentioned Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin as a possible candidate to replace Nutt.

"That's news to me," Kiffin said Wednesday.

Kiffin said he hasn't been contacted by anyone from Arkansas. Kiffin's father, Monte Kiffin, was a defensive coordinator at Arkansas during the late 1970s.

"I was 3 years old," Lane Kiffin said when asked about his memories of Arkansas.

Kiffin shoots down Arkansas rumors

“That’s news to me,” Kiffin said following Oakland’s practice, adding that neither he nor his agent have been contacted by anybody from Arkansas. “No. You can call and ask (my agent).”

Arkansas media outlets and ESPN.com both reported Kiffin as a potential candidate for the Arkansas job, though no source was identified.

I get so sick of this shit. Even the media sees something in Kiffin that they hope the Raiders don't capitalize on.

These kinds of rumors make me sick. Maybe Nortre Dame will shitcan Weis and Lane can be in line for that one too. Pffft.
 
Actually they do have the right Kiffin, SoCal. It's been on ESPN for a few days that Kiffin is an option for Arkansas. I hope he's telling the truth when he says that he that, but it's hard to believe he'd acknowledge that's he out after one year...
 
Well what Gruden did was deny, deny, deny...and then the SOB had his agent do all the dirty work like start the rumors about Ohio St. and Notre Dame while Jonny Boy denied it. "News to me...I have a job". Sound familiar? Fact is Gruden wanted out bad. But his family lives in Florida etc. and he had put up with whatever BS he did in Raiderland for 4 years. So the situation is a little different. For the life of my (No offense Arkie) I have no idea why anybody would want to move to fucking Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Kiffin has a lot to prove to himself and his doubters. The youngest HC in the history of the NFL...seems to me he's love to say `` I told you so".

I hope this is BS. The last thing we need to do is start over with another HC and another system. Oy vey.

Fair enough... I guess it's only a matter of time before PFT starts making this real interesting....

... That said, this could be eerily similar to how Saban left Miami.... I cited Saban as the main reason why I didn't want to see Al go after a college coach. Outside of Jimmy Johnson, every single college coach that tried to make the transition to the pros went right back to college tail firmly tucked between the legs. The one similarity I see between Saban and Kiffin is I don't think they really like dealing with all the baggage you have to put up with when you're dealing with multi-million dollar players and owners.

It's a damn shame if we end up heading down the same path with Kiffin because I could very easily see us becoming the 2007 Dolphins next year... not to mention what would happen to guys like Russell or Walter who have to suck down yet another offensive system.

I agree completely. We'd officially be the laughing stock of the NFL and it would be extremely difficult to recover.
 
I've heard Arkansas has interest, Georgia Tech has interest...

Better get used to the Kiffin to ______ rumors because he's going to be popular rumor fodder simply because he was such a damn good recruiter at SC... I don't think it's anything more than speculation by sports writers at this point...

I don't know what kind of outs Kiff has in his contract, but if Al let's him go for any reason, he damn well better have some kind of handshake deal in place with a Jason Garrett or someone like that...
 
I could be taking a head in the sand approach, but I don't see there being anything in this.
 
Its all good. I think he wants to be successful in the NFL. He might want to step out of his boy Pete Carroll's shadow. Sarkasian should be in line for a job too right?

"I don't know if he trusts everyone in that building right now," Schefter said on NFL Network. Schefter nailed the Art Shell firing weeks before it happened last season, so this is a situation worth monitoring. Even if it did happen, don't expect anything before the end of the year.

We are already the laughing stock of the league. This is purely a result of AL DAVIS running the show. Time to retire you old, team killing bastard!

As for the validity of these rumors.....well, suffice to say, Schefter has been reasonably accurate in regards to the Raiders and typically when these rumors start, they have pretty accurate legs.

I would not be suprised to see a new puppet on the sidelines next year........:mad:
 
Kiffin rumors started out pretty strong, but all the "insider" types are saying he's a long shot at this point. Tuberville has been excluded. There were also rumors that we might be taking a shot at Bill Cowher of all people. And then there is the obligatory Butch Davis-Jimmy Johnson B.S. rumors. To be honest, I'd be happy if we just promoted Reggie Herring, but after the Houston Nutt debacle, they will be going after a name, armed with a contract for about 3 mil/per.

I just hope it's not Mike Leach. I can't stand that sand-lot football bullshit

Sure can't argue with Kiffin on this one. I sure as hell don't trust anybody in that building... it doesn't surprise me in the least that Kiffin doesn't either.

Though I think Kiffin is seeing the same thing Gruden saw with Al is that nobody really gets appreciated around there.... no matter what they do. So there's always an uncertainty about where your place really is in that organization. I can't blame him for hedging his bet and keeping his options open since he probably doesn't feel as much job security as he wants.

Too true. The best thing AD could do for the Raiders is hire a credible GM and recuse himself from the day to day operations of the team.
