Jordan to stay
Posted by Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer on Monday at 2:50 pm
Running back LaMont Jordan agreed to cut his roster bonus from $4.75 million to $3 million Monday and remain a member of the Oakland Raiders.

Jordan was due the $4.75 million Wednesday. Had he refused to renegotiate, it's possible the Raiders would have released him and he could have entered the lucrative open market.

Denver signed running back Travis Henry Monday to a deal which included $12 million in guaranteed money. Ahman Green signed with Houston with a reported $6.5 million in guarantees.

Henry and Green were both scheduled to visit the Raiders but signed before they got to Alameda.

According to Jordan's agent, Alvin Keels, Jordan's base salary this season will remain $1 million, improving to $4.7 million next season and $5 million in 2008.

"LaMont understands that there was a great possibility in today's market to earn more money elsewhere had the Raiders decided not to pay him his original bonus amount," Keels said by e-mail. "However, he is committed to helping this organization turn things around and as result made the compromise on the roster bonus adjustment."

Looks like it'll be Lamont, Huggy, and a possible rookie running the rock this year.

And thus, the Adrian Peterson bandwagon burst into flames, smashed into a brick wall, and the wheels fell off.

I'll still support LaMont. Hopefully, he's pissed off and runs like it next year. I still think that he can be very successful.

Now I just have to figure out which bandwagon to jump on before the draft.

LOL

Good man, LaMont. Everyone is saying and doing all the right things. I wonder how much he would have helped out if Shell was in charge?

Stepper...you might as well get on the Calvin Johnson wagon. You know Al won't be able to pass this guy up. I personally don't like it unless we figure out a way to dump Moss and draft Quinn but I see the draft shaping up like this for the Raiders. Will they take him #1? Why not?

Looks like Lombardi is really starting to get the hang of the cap management and negotiating side of the business.

I can't get on the Calvin Johnson bandwagon until we figure out what the hell is going on with Moss. If Moss stays, no way do we take Calvin Johnson, IMO...

He's the consensus "best player" in the draft so assuming we don't trade down, we should draft him. Just dump that stiff Randy Moss, please. Pick up that 2nd that GB is ostensibly dangling and nab a QB or RB with the pick.

Jordan wasn't exactly quick to the hole BEFORE his knee injury. Now what - we get an even slower version of an average back? What's his status anyway...doesn't it normally take 1-2 years before the knee is back to full strength? This isn't my favorite scenario, good soldier or not.

That said, I still don't believe it's a lock that we'll take C.J. Unless has ultimate faith that Walter will come around, I can't see Al passing on Russell.

Lombardi

Forbes doesn't think much of him

Matt Millen, Mike Brown, Mike Lombardi: Worst GMs in Sports

Forbes has a new ranking of sports general managers, and as Deadspin has pointed out, the whole list is called into question by the fact that Kevin McHale is No. 1.

But it is worth looking at the very bottom of the list: The last three are Matt Millen of the Detroit Lions, Mike Brown of the Cincinnati Bengals and Michael Lombardi of the Oakland Raiders. I don't really see how Millen can be ahead of Brown or Lombardi; to me having Millen anywhere other than last is even worse than having McHale first.

Brown owns the Bengals (courtesy of his father, the legendary Paul Brown), and although he put the team through a dark stretch in the 1990s, he wisely brought in Marvin Lewis and drafted Carson Palmer, and he has the team going in the right direction. Lombardi's tenure in Oakland has been all-around pretty lousy, but he's got Al Davis breathing down his neck, so it's hard to blame him too much.

Millen, on the other hand, has been given full control of the Lions. This is a team that went 9-7 before he arrived and has never won more than six games in any of the six seasons with him in charge. It's a slam dunk, really: Millen (pictured with owner William Clay Ford, the only person on earth who thinks he should keep his job) is the worst GM in sports.

Personally, I think LJ can be a good back in this system.

Perhaps a VERY good back.

Get him 50 passes and 250+ carries, and we could have a 1500 yard back next season.

The more I think about it, the more I CAN see Al passing on Russell. This guy is a project no matter how you slice it and dice it. Is Al ready for a project QB at this point in his life? Not so sure. Now if he was Carson Palmer or Peyton Manning ready, I think he'd do it.

I'm thinking it's CJ all the way now.

...I can't see Al passing on Russell.
I can...

DRAFT BUZZ: The Raiders returned from the NFL Scouting Combine less convinced that Louisiana State QB JaMarcus Russell is their man for the top pick and with more questions than before after taking a long look at him during the process. Publicly, the Raiders said nothing about Russell or any of the other players who attended the Combine. Privately, several Raider officials questioned Russell's work ethic, said they are concerned about his weight as a long-term issue, and cautioned against making Russell a lead-pipe cinch as the top pick. It now appears just as likely that the Raiders will target Georgia Tech WR Calvin Johnson in light of his posting a 4.31-second 40-yard dash and saying all the right things during an interview.
I have had this feeling about Russell after the initial rush I had following the Bowl Game...this guy is a huge project.

The question is how long will it take Al to unload that piece of shit Randy Moss? Sooner the better so we can get clear on this #1 pick thing.

Hope they took the insurance on that rental...

I would hope that this wouldn't preclude us from taking a flyer on Marshawn Lynch should he start to slip past the 20th spot....

Jets just got Thomas Jones for a 2nd...

Shoot, the Jets got him for less than that.

They traded down from 37 to 63 in the 2nd round, and got Jones in exchange. Good move by the Jets. Dang.

Thomas Jones for a second is a good deal. He has turned into a solid back. Lamont is not going anywhere huh... im gonna go cry because it means no Adrian Peterson. That fucking sucks i really think this guy is going to be a superstar, with that said im done and boarding the Calvin Johnson or trade down bandwagon. Moss to GB for a 2nd and this draft will be very intersting. Actually i just decided that we HAVE to draft Brian Leonard. If Lamont is the guy then Brian Leonard can be a FB and Back-up RB with Fargas as a situational player.

New Draft
1.Calvin Johnson
2.Ryan Kalil
2.B.Leonard
3.Z.Miller
3.Doug Free
4.Troy Smith

That's almost exactly equal to the first pick in RD3 per the draft value chart.... Mangini's got it going on in NY... I love Jones...

Can Jordon and Fargas be the White- Bush like combo this yr for the Raiders? I am not saying that Fargas is any where near Bush like but he did play better last yr and he did well at USC when Kiffen was the TE coach.

Does Fargas take away more carries from Jordon this yr also?

As far as the draft goes I think Al takes CJ even if Moss is still here and tries to get a QB later.
