Did anyone else just hear Charlie Casserly say on the pregame show that Lane Kiffen has another interview with the Raiders scheduled for tonight???...

Brief quote from Casserly: "Sark didn't want to take the Raiders job without Kiffen and Raiders became so enamored with Kiffen during the interview, that tonight after the game, Kiffen is headed back to Oakland to interview for the Raiders head coaching job."

LANE KIFFIN

Offensive Coordinator
Wide Receivers
Recruiting Coordinator

Lane Kiffin, the son of longtime pro and collegiate coach Monte Kiffin, is in his sixth year at USC. He joined the Trojan staff in February of 2001 and spent the 2001 season handling the tight ends. He became the wide receivers coach in 2002. In 2004, he took on the additional duty of passing game coordinator. In 2005, he was promoted to offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator, in addition to continuing as the wide receivers coach.

In 2005, he was named one of the nation's Top 25 recruiters by Rivals.com. Wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett was an All-American first teamer and Biletnikoff Award finalist. Troy's offense was in the national Top 6 in every offensive category, including tops in total offense (579.8) and second in scoring offense (49.1), and set Pac-10 records for total offense yardage, first downs, points scored, touchdowns and PATs. The Trojans, who scored 50 points a school-record 7 times, won games by an average of 26.2 points. USC became the first school to have a 3,000-yard passer, a pair of 1,000-yard runners and a 1,000-yard receiver in a season.

In 2004, Jarrett was named a Freshman All-American first teamer. The Trojans won their second consecutive national championship.

Wide receiver Mike Williams was a consensus All-American first teamer and a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award in 2003 (he finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy balloting) as he set the USC career (30) and season (16) touchdown reception records, while fellow wide receiver Keary Colbert set the USC career reception record (207) and was a NFL second round pick. Troy won its first national championship since 1978.

In 2002, Williams was a Freshman All-American first teamer and the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year as he and Colbert became USC's first pair of 1,000-yard receivers. Also in 2002, wide receiver Kareem Kelly became the Trojan career reception leader and was a sixth round NFL draft pick.

USC played in the 2001 Las Vegas Bowl, 2003 Orange Bowl, 2004 Rose Bowl, 2005 Orange Bowl (BCS Championship Game) and 2006 Rose Bowl (BCS Championship Game).

Kiffin, 30, was the defensive quality control coach for the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars in 2000 (he worked with the secondary).

He began his coaching career at Fresno State, his alma mater, where for 2 seasons (1997-98) he worked with the quarterbacks, wide receivers and defensive backs.

He then was an assistant at Colorado State in 1999, working with the offensive line. The Rams played in the Liberty Bowl that season.

Kiffin was a quarterback at Fresno State for 3 seasons (1994-96).

He earned his bachelor's degree in leisure service management from Fresno State in 1998.

He prepped at Bloomington (Minn.) Jefferson High, where he played football, basketball and baseball.

He was born May 9, 1975. His wife's name is Layla. They have a daughter, Landry, 1.

His father, Monte, is the defensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The elder Kiffin, a longtime NFL and collegiate assistant coach who served as North Carolina State's head coach in the early 1980s, has a long history with Pete Carroll (Carroll was an assistant on Kiffin's Wolfpack staff from 1980 to 1982, and they served as assistants together with Arkansas in 1977, the Buffalo Bills in 1984, the Minnesota Vikings from 1986 to 1989 and the New York Jets in 1990).

His brother, Chris, was a defensive lineman at Colorado State (2001-04).

its all psychotic. i dont care anymore. call me when we have a coach.

Just read it elsewhere, Supposedly he's flying in to interview after today's game. FWIW, Sark wanted wholesale changes and AL didn't think a major overhaul was necessary. Apparently Norv Turner advised him not to take the job.

This shit get's weirder by the minute. I'm not getting my hopes up.

That's some funny shit right there. Maybe Chang and Eng will be seperated after all.

I don't get it.

It didn't work out with Sark 'cause we didn't want Kiffen? And now we want Kiffen?

I'm with the guy who said 'Call me when we have a coach.'

Not sure what to believe anymore!

I just hope Indy kills NE and RHC pays up!

The McDaniels goes straight to the airport and gets a flight to Oakland, them we hire him and kiffin and end the speculation ASAP!

FYI I am posting this from my Since my wife is on the pc, downloading music legally of course!

FWIW, Kiffen is generally the higher regarded of the Sarkiffen duo amongst SC people... but it was thought that he was tied to the hip to his godfather Pete Carroll... I figured he'd be Carroll's OC after next season when Carroll takes the Bolt's job...Kiffen, like his pops. is more of the intense guy, Sark the people's person... Can't say I hate this idea cause I pushed for either Kiffen or Ken Zampese for OC back when we fired Norv... May as well throw in Zampese as his OC and have both my mancrushes on board... :D

hehe, ::waves hi to Socal::

I just want Rob Ryan coaching this team.

Bring in Trestman, promote Martindale to DC, and off we go.

We can win with that staff.

It isnt the Patriots all star lineup, but its good enough for the mess we're in.

You said this on another board too...but I though "elsewhere" meant here.

You have too damn many message boards.

You jihadists freakin' kill me. So let me get this straight. Sark uses Davis to get him some name-time out in the national media... and now Kiffen wants a piece of the action. Why not... if the "lesser of the 2" can make Davis and the Raiders bend over... why can't the "greater of the 2"... Somebody contact Cockroach and McDonald's. I'll get a hold of Clayton and we can do this all over again.

It's laughable that if Sark couldn't get out of here fast enough, then suddenly the more respected Kiffen is really going to settle for the gig instead. And who the hell his Charlie Casserly? Is he the Fox version of Clayton or someobody? And why aren't the Raiders contacting me? I can fuck with people just as good as Sarkiffen.

Calm down man... Put the rolleye smiliey thingie back in the holster :) ... Kiffen won't get the job unless he's really interested in coaching at the NFL level... Too many factors working against it at this point...

Raiders to bring in USC assistant Kiffin again

David White, Chronicle Staff Writer

(01-21) 16:17 PST -- The Raiders aren't giving up on the USC pipeline just yet.

Rejected by Trojans assistant head coach Steve Sarkisian on Friday, the Raiders are now bringing back USC offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin for a second interview Monday - this time, to discuss becoming Oakland's next head coach, according to two sources familiar with the search.

Kiffin interviewed with Raiders owner Al Davis on Thursday in Alameda, but that was about serving as offensive coordinator if Sarkisian accepted their multiyear proposal.

Sarkisian didn't, and pulled himself out of the running. Now Kiffin, the 31-year-old son of NFL coaching veteran Monte Kiffin, gets a chance to win his first head coaching job at any level.

By targeting Kiffin, Davis is sticking to his preferred plan of hiring a young, unproven coach with lots of upswing and offensive experience. Kiffin finished his sixth season under Trojans coach Pete Carroll, including the past two as offensive and recruiting coordinator.

Davis is also interested in interviewing New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, 30. NFL anti-tampering rules prohibit the Raiders from contacting the Patriots to ask for permission to speak with McDaniels until the end of the Patriots' season.

New England is playing the Indianapolis Colts in tonight's AFC Championship Game. If the Patriots win, McDaniels is off-limits until after the Feb. 4 Super Bowl.

Sarkisian indicated one reason he turned down the job was he wasn't going to be given enough say in personnel and staff decisions.

Don't be surprised if Kiffin, too, demands a certain amount of say from Davis, who hasn't been one to share power since Jon Gruden left.

Carroll told Los Angeles reporters that he did things to persuade Sarkisian not to leave (translation: pay raise and other incentives). He is just as likely to do the same to keep Kiffin.

Something else to nibble on: Kiffin's father is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defensive coordinator for Gruden, who probably will have some advice for the younger Kiffin on what it's like to work for Davis.

Now, that was a quality post. LOL!

How funny would it be if Kiffin got hired to be the coach and he hired Sark to be his OC?

:p

JMO but I think that with Carroll actually starting to agree to interview for NFL jobs, Sarkisian sees the opportunity to succeed him at SC... Sark made a comment about the long days at the NFL level when asked bout his year with the Raiders, so NCAA ball may actually be his preference...

Kiffen grew up in an NFL environment and probably has had NFL coaching aspirations for awhile... Had Carroll taken that Dolphin job, Kiffen would have followed as his OC IMO... People that liked Gruden should come to like Kiffen if he is indeed hired... He's cut from the same get in at the crack of dawn workaholic mold...

Unless Al agrees to give him his fair say as coach, I don't think he'll take the job... He's close to Gruden and I'm sure knows the restrictions a Raiders HC faces... Even if he doesn't get/take this job, he'll be a HC in the NFL before long IMO...

I'd be shocked at this point if Kiffen was the guy. He either "won't be offered the job" or will "withdraw his name from consideration".... :o

If Kiffin is his own man and a bit of a rebel, I hope he tells Gruden and his old man to butt out, cause he is gonna make his own way and on his own terms - sort of like Belichick walkin' on Parcells from the Jets to NE. Maybe that is the kind of coach we need to flourish in the Raiders organization. Any coach who would balk because he is advised it isn't a good situation, probably doesn't have what it takes anyway for this job.

what kind of pussy coach is scared of a challenge anyway?

That was my first thought when I read the title. :D

Too right. We need someone in here who wants a challenge. If they are not prepared for that then they are unlikely to succeed.

It sounds like Kiffen may be more suited to the job that Sarkisian was, still he is a trojan so you can't trust him.
