Keyshawn to Oakland?

Gawd dammit

I hate it when unused cap money starts to burn a hole in Al's pocket. We end up flushing it down the toilet on guys like Lance Johnstone, Tyrone Poole and Keyshawn Johnson.

This isnt going to happen. BMW is a Keyshawn clone.

Unless he's being converted to TE...... hee hee.

I don't think I like the idea.... but come on, since the day he was drafted, has there been a doubt in anybody's mind that EVENTUALLY this guy would become a Raider? I hope it doesn't happen, but it just seems like an epic Raider pickup.

If he is signed, I assume that means he has to 'earn' a job on the team and if guys like BMW, Gabriel, Morant, etc aren't able to fend him off, so be it.

Still, I don't see it happening. If Oakland was closer to winning a SB and we needed a veteran #3 or #4 WR, then yes, but this team is in complete rebuild mode.

I think it would be a good idea for the right price.

This offense could use a reliable all-around football player to help bring us back to respectability.

You know, I'm with this guy.

It's not like we don't have room for him on the roster, as the CJ-backers explained all spring. WR is a need for this team.

I don't actually see it that way, but I find it hard to believe that we couldn't find a spot for this guy. The guy I saw in Dallas and Carolina is an exceptional possession receiver.

Right now, Ron Curry is our possession guy. For one thing, he's not as good a chain-mover as Key. For another, Curry is more than just a possession guy, it's selling him short to pigeonhole him in that role. And finally, there is the fear of you-know-what with Curry.

Ideally, BMW fits this role. But he is an unknown quantity right now. We are hoping we get the guy from USC, 3 years ago, that hasn't shown much since. Maybe Keyshawn signing here is a good move. After all, in a perfect world, BMW becomes Key in his prime. Perhaps Key can do in Oakland, what he was planning on doing in Carolina--coach up the big possession WR from USC.

Also, simply put, if we are going to quicker drops and shorter patterns, Key fits in just fine with that.

He burned Sapp when he joined Tampa from the Jets. Sapp told the FO to get him after the Pro Bowl and when they (Tampa) did he didn't show up to workouts and wasn't a "team player". Sapp mentioned this in Americas game on the NFL network.

I doubt Sapp will give him a ringing endorsement which IMO means .... as long as Warren is here Keyshawn will not be welcome..... and I'm fine with that.

and BTW I saw his "commentating" during the draft.

He sukx balls.

hawaiianboy dreamt aloud for two years that the Raiders would get Mike Williams. He also used to always talk about how Key would be a Raider one day.

Frankly, that's just too damned much crowing to hear from one man in one season.

Please, Al... think of the fans. Think of the forums. Think of just how insufferable hawaiianboy will become.

Just say no to Keyshawn Johnson.

It's not like we don't have room for him on the roster, as the CJ-backers explained all spring. WR is a need for this team.

Our need is more in regards to the future then the present as Porter and Gabriel will be unrestricted free agents after this season. Key doesn't have a future.

I agree. Key would be a good one or two year stop gap for a contending team. I really don't see much of a need or fit here and the last thing we need is another disgruntled receiver.

Remember how everyone was saying Kiffin wouldn't take the Raiders job because his dad and Jon Gruden would tell him not to?

Well, that didn't happen because Monte didn't tell Lane not to take the job, and Lane says he didn't talk to Gruden at all.

Well, I'm guessing Lane actually would talk to Daddy about Keyshawn, and I'm guessing Daddy wouldn't have anything nice to say.

If Key comes to Oaktown, he would be 3rd on the depth cart, since Curry is Healthy and he is more of a playmaker at that spot then Key is right now. You can also almost say goodbye to Gabriel if Key is signed. This way we would be able to line up Porter, Curry, Keyshawn, and Williams in 4 WR sets....the only thing I see with that is Porter is the only really deep threat......
I could live with him here, he caused no problems in Car or Dallas for that matter.......and I don't think Sapp would care to be honest with you as long as Key is running in mouth that is.....

Personally, I think there is more to his release in Carolina than is being talked about. Releasing a guy who caught 70 balls is a big deal IMO.

After the season, he said he would retire if they fired Henning (who Smith was critical about all season and for good reason). There were one or two interceptions that were his fault last year that he never said anything about it when Delhomme was being crucified by the local media. He just left Delhomme to hang.

And to hear Smith's comments on it after the release, he seemed lukewarm about it.

Kind of odd for a guy who caught 70 balls and took some double teaming pressure off of Smith.

I could be way reading into it, but I think there was more there than meets the eye.

I think we should pass since the last thing we need at the moment is any disruption from the WR spot. This move would have been better years ago when we had a vet heavy presence in the locker room. The only reason I could see bringing him in would be as insurance for Curry's achillies.

Just my two cents on the guy and funny thing is last off season I was hoping we would pick him up. Now that would have been fun to watch, him, Moss and Porter. Oy.

I would be against it for all the reasons mentioned although ironically Stepper's carry the most weight.

For those keeping score, Sapp's past has thus far precluded us from hiring Mike Sherman (good), trading for Kris Jenkins (bad) and now signing Key (meh) for the second time... :D

Oddly signing Sapp in 04 served to derail my wish to sign Keyshawn that same offseason...

Think of just how insufferable hawaiianboy will become.

Insufferable obviously being stickboy jargon for pure, unadulterated genius....

I think Key/Mike Williams is an either/or situation... We already have a bunch of big possession type receivers and Key is not exactly known for embracing his QB's... Probably not a good thing with the young QB's and head coach we have... I'm happy with the Porter/BMW/Curry/Morant/Gabriel/Higgins grouping...

I will say this... It would be nice if one of our WR's (TE's too for that matter) learns to block the way Key does...

Amen to that, we could use a WR that can lay down some DB's & LB'ers. Right now there are only two WR's that can really block and Key is just better then most. Then there is only one guy that lays it out everytime....
Hines Ward THAT DUDE is a player, that is one Steeler that busted truely deserved that ring.
