Panthers | Hurney comments on K. Johnson release
Tue, 1 May 2007 15:14:55 -0700

Carolina Panthers general manager Marty Hurney, during an interview on "The Afternoon Blitz" on SIRIUS NFL Radio, said the Panthers were fortunate enough to land WR Dwayne Jarrett and WR Ryne Robinson during the NFL Draft, which made it easier to part ways with WR Keyshawn Johnson. Hurney noted the team feels they have a group of young receivers who are able to develop through a lot of time and reps. While noting Johnson was everything they hoped he would be when they signed him, Hurney noted the team made a decision it was time to give their younger players time to develop. He added Johnson was a little surprised but understands the reasons behind his release. Hurney said financial considerations did not play a part in the release.

Do the Raiders make room for this guy....he and Mike Williams are close? He's wanted to play for the Raiders, yet he's a guy who wants his money too. I can see all the AFC W teams looking at him...Rat Face, Herm and Craters.

I don't think so. The guy is getting up in years besides we have enough "possession" type guys. Really don't see much of a need here.

Another former USC player was waived today, Manny Wright. Just wondering if Kiffin thought enough of him at USC to were he'll put in a waiver claim...

I don't think they will either....but I bet he pops up in rumors as he does everytime he's on the move.

Is that the DT that went to Miami some folks around "here" were getting hot & bothered about a couplea years ago?

Sign Keyshawn and Manny Wright and let theTrojanfication of the Raiders continue!!!

Had we not traded for BMW I think we would have made a run at Keyshawn.. The Chiefs showed alot of interest in signing him before he went to Carolina but I think the Ravens and Jets would be good landing spots for him...

I still think Manny Wright has got moldable skills and it's not like we're not in need of some DT's here... (freakin Byron and his memory) :D

Porter and Courtney to GB for Corey Williams. They still can use a wideout and with the signing of Harrell, Williams becomes expendable.
