Mr. Irrelevant Ready for Camp
by Mike Hedeen
Published Jul 10, 2006
Mr. Irrelevant becomes anything but later this month as we approach the start of National Football League training camps. Kevin McMahan, the Aquinas grad who was the last player selected in April’s college draft, is ready to make a name for himself when he reports to Oakland Raiders training camp July 24th.
“What I bring to the game is a combination of size and speed that a lot of receivers don't have now. The game's kind of moving towards that, a lot of big guys that can run are starting to come out and that's something I bring to the table,” McMahan said recently.
He got his first taste of the NFL at mini camp a couple of months ago. Now it’s time for McMahan to put it all on the line and try to earn himself a roster spot with the Raiders.
“I train hard, I work hard and I try to give the coaches what they want. That's just the type of guy I am,” McMahan explained. I'm going to come to practice every day, I'm going to work hard, whatever it is the coach asks me to do I'm going to go ahead and do and show that I really want to be here.”
The tag Mr. Irrelevant goes to the last player picked in the draft and that’s brought McMahan instant recognition. Now wants to be noticed for his talent and work ethic just as he did at the University of Maine.
