Can someone tell me if they have seen this anywhere. I have Sirius and have heard them mention this 4 times today and Now Shine and Miller are debating what we would give up for him?????

They said a 3rd or 4th?

I hope this would be with the intent of creating depth only... :(

I believe this is the source for those rumors.... From the Draft area...

(March 27, 2007) -- After spending a few days with the general managers, coaches and an owner or two at the NFL owners' meetings in Phoenix this week, I have a much different perspective about where the draft is headed.

Mock draft No. 5 reflects the trade between the Falcons and Texans that sent Matt Schaub to Houston, the Eagles-Bills trade involving Takeo Spikes, and all the information floating around Phoenix. Free-agent signings are slowing down a bit but there are still a few personnel moves affecting the draft.

The top of the draft seems to have changed the most in the past week as teams seem to be settling in on their plans. As one GM said, "There is the potential for more trades than ever on draft day."

Note: Changes from the fourth mock draft are marked with an asterisk. There are three hypothetical trades in this mock draft.

1. **Oakland: Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech -- The Raiders have a lot of needs, but as long as quarterback is one of them, they have to respond by selecting the guy with the great deep ball, JaMarcus Russell. By passing on the opportunity to get Schaub in a trade, it looks like a quarterback is the pick -- but if the Raiders secure a QB like Josh McCown  from the Lions, then here comes Calvin Johnson. Let's go with Johnson, the top-rated player on most draft boards!

Lord, I like Pat, but I hope he's wrong. McCown/Walter/Booty or Otis does not set well with me.

More on McCown

Gaining momentum fast....

McCown makes sense
Posted by Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer on Tuesday at 2:27 pm
One of the rumors at the NFL owner's meeting in Arizona is that the Raiders are interested in making Josh McCown their quarterback for the second straight year.

McCown, you may recall, visited the Raiders facility last year but opted to sign a two-year, $6 million deal with the Detroit Lions to compete for the starting job with Jon Kitna.

I've had my doubts about virtually every veteran quarterback headed the Raiders way since the release of Aaron Brooks, and am of the opinion Andrew Walter will need a chilling out period of at least a year to recover from the trauma of the Tom Walsh-Art Shell offense.

Jeff Garcia was too old and impatient for a rebuilding team. Aaron Rodgers has barely played. David Carr isn't of a mind to sign on some place where he would have to be replaced by JaMarcus Russell or compete with another young quarterback down the road.

If the Raiders were interested in Joey Harrington, he'd be on the team by now.

There are still questions as to whether Daunte Culpepper will ever be healthy enough to be the quarterback he was in 2004.

Jake Plummer is property of Tampa Bay and sounds serious about staying retired.

Houston gave up way too much for Matt Schaub, considering his experience.

Jacksonville appears determined to give Byron Leftwich another year.

Drew Bledsoe? Haven't you had enough of statues behind center?

The McCown rumor started on Sirius Satellite Radio with NFL.com correspondent Pat Kirwan, who may have inside information or may simply be making an educated guess. Either way, it's worth noting Kirwan is extremely close to the USC football program, and is often on the sidelines during games. He's good friends with Pete Carroll and knows Lane Kiffin.

So even if Kirwan is making an educated guess, his backround of knowledge is probably better than most.

Besides, it just makes sense.

Since McCown spent the entire season watching Kitna play in 2006, he won't be like Garcia and Carr in that he would be worried about looking over his shoulder should the Raiders land Russell or Brady Quinn.

Since McCown is in the last year of his contract, he could use the season to build up a resume as a starter in anticipation of hitting the open market in 2006.

Since McCown did not sign with the Raiders last year, he was spared exposure to the Great Debacle. Instead, he spent a season learning under Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz, and although he didn't play, he is much better off than had he started in Oakland.

With the Raiders, McCown is virtually assured of helping rejuvenate the offense. The Raiders only scored 12 offensive touchdowns last year. You can count on them being much better simply because duplicating that kind of ineptitude is not possible.

McCown is big (6-foot-4, 212 pounds), young (27), mobile and has a strong throwing arm. He did some good things in Arizona, where Dennis Green was notoriously hard on quarterbacks and not known for being patient.

If Kiffin is as good with an offense and quarterbacks as Al Davis says he is, then let's see him work some magic with McCown.

If McCown works out and the Raiders don't draft Russell or Quinn, the Raiders could sign him to a contract. If the Raiders draft Russell or Quinn, McCown and Walter could provide a bridge until the new quarterback is ready.

Including compenstatory selections, the Raiders have 10 draft picks, including two third-round picks, two fifth-round picks and two seventh-round picks.

It shouldn't take much to get McCown from the Lions, especially if Detroit has its eyes on Quinn at No. 2.

Actually, I would like to see this go down. Particularly if we pass on Russell/Quinn and draft Calvin Johnson. I thought that McCown had some very solid moments in Arizona and got hosed by that idiot Dennis Green.

McCown is young and has solid athletic skills, but this dude also has the demeanor of a fierce competitor. I'd love to see McCown in the QB mix. No doubt.

Good #3.

Which is a good thing because Walter is a mediocre #2.

But hey, we can always have us some Booty!!

We're set for the next 10 years. SB bound, baby!!

I'd rather draft Stanton in rd 2 than give up our 4th

McNowns no better than Walter at this point, both are one in the same with a slight edge to possibly Walter.

I'd much rather have Tim Rattay, I say we just hang tight and pluck some QB off the 53 man cutdown

I'd much rather have Russell and Moss vs Walter and Calvin Johnson

I like that McCown is mobile...

Thats about it.

I'm with Nips. I'd rather take my chances with Rattay, he's probably more of a legit starter than Walter is plus he's familiar with the WCO.

I really have a tough time feeling either way.

I remember he was well thought of in ARI, and I was pretty on board with getting him last summer, but he's as much an unknown as Walter.

If we wind up with Walter/McCown, and some lesser rook, I just see the situation being muddy.

Whoever wins the job, if he starts off slow, everyone'll be calling for the other guy, or the rookie. The team won't have enough invested in any one guy to stick with anyone.

Yeah, if we draft CJ, I'd love to see McCown here, but it's not my preferred plan. (Ha, I think that's pretty obvious)

This absolutely blows that we're debating the merits of players like Tim Rattay, Josh McCown, David Carr, Andrew Walter, etc. as our starting QB.

We might as well have pulled the trigger on Garcia if those are the best names we can come up with.

Even if Russell is the pick, I highly doubt he starts next season...

We need all the QB's we can get.

That all depends on how well the starters are playing in front of him. I think he would have a decent shot a starting towards the middle or end of the season. If Moss comes out and makes a statement about his personal plans for next season it would be very helpful. If he is staying then JR is a lock IMO. If he goes then CJ will be the favorite. If AL is comparing JR to Elway then he obviously likes the guy. AL isnt the type to make a dumb statement to smoke screen IMO. He speaks wisdon and truth, something like Yoda if he were with the darkside, they even look the same! I am starting to agree the depth at WR allows us to pass CJ and still get a future star. Jarrett, Rice, Bowe, Meachum, Ginn, CJ, C.Davis, Hill, Higgins, Smith etc. There are a ton of good WR's! Two of which have chemistry with Mr. J-Rock.

I guessing we're about to see Ja get the Vince Young treatment. He'll be starting by mid-season. Especially if we bring in one of the jokers being discussed.

I'm sick of this shit. Draft the franchise QB and roll with the punches. We can't make any worst decision than we did with Gallery and Russell's upside is huge. Time to give it a shot.

Gallery wasnt a mistake.

That pick was text book perfect, IMO and I loved that pick...

It sucked that he was overrated athletically (Cant handle outside speed) and he lost all his confidence due to piss poor OL coaching.

Calling him a bust is a pretty safe bet, but that pick was a money in the bank lock at the time. We didnt hear much crap about that pick, If I recall...

I wanted Fitz. With a passion.

But then I'm the guy who would never take any OL in the first round, much less with the #2 overall.

My opinion at the time was that Fitz was more of a lock than Gallery, although I never thought Gallery would be quite so disappointing.

And CJ will be an even better pro, having 2 things Fitz lacked. Top-end speed and a ripped physique.

CJ is the most perfect WR prospect I have ever seen.

He is probably the best overall prospect I've seen. The guy is a fucking cyborg.

Perfect in every way.

Only problem is the position he plays and the people we have there already.

Im happy if he's the pick though...

I agree. But at the same time at age 26 this guy has played every position except C with new coaches every year. He showed signs of being a monster his first two years and looked pretty bad last season. I still think there is hope that Cable is gonna coach this guy up. Gallery will return to his franchise status one day! Im not giving up on the dream he is still young he can turn it around! Grove and Gallery will be playing to stay on the team this year, at least as starters.
