Idalia

Nastiest storm to hit that area in 127 years. Hunker down.

  • Idalia made landfall in Florida's Big Bend near Keaton Beach just before 8 a.m. ET. with maximum sustained winds of 125 mph.
  • It is an "extremely dangerous" Category 3 hurricane after being downgraded from a Category 4.
  • The storm has seen streets flooded, airports closed, flights canceled, along with widespread power outages.
  • Storm surge damage may stretch about 200 miles along Florida’s west coast, past the Tampa Bay area, and the state's Big Bend area could get 12 to 16 feet of storm surge.
  • The National Weather Service office in Tallahassee said β€œlocations may be uninhabitable for several weeks or months” because of wind damage. Storm surge could prevent access, too.

And it caused the governor to suspend his presidential campaign.

We just got a bunch of rain and wind this go around after getting pounded by Ian last year. Didn't lose power once. Lot of flooding in low lying areas not helped by full moon (blue).
