Would it be a classic Al "old school" type move to not draft a QB and then pull in a Mark Brunell from the Skins? Old grizzly vet who's been written off, who happens to be a lefty? I could see Al packaging up a Stu Schwag because the Skins could use a safety (Huff moves to free) and Randy Moss in exchange for Mark Brunell and the Skins 1st round pick. I would love that just for the first round pick, not because of Mark Brunell. But you know how Al loves to try and get the vet guy for one last run. Schneider is all about signing the big names and the WR's they signed last year were duds not to mention he made Adam Archuletta the highest paid safety in the game and the guy rode the pine.

Any thoughts?

Brunell is like the undead at this point, and I'm not sure even Snyder is dumb enough to sellout like that for Moss' sour ass.

Good lord I hope not.

Mark Brunell?

He sucked five years ago, and still sucks...

I'd be looking more at guys like Patrick Ramsey, that type of player.

He's undead?

Fuck, I thought he was just plain dead.

But he'd be a damn good backup for Quinn, fighting it out with Walter for the #2 spot.

I think Brunell was done pretty much the same time his legs went...

Whether we take Russell at one or not, I'd expect we'll bring in a grizzled vet... Names like Bledsoe, Brad Johnson, Trent Green, and Kurt Warner come to mind... though asking Warner to caddy a half season while waiting on a drafted prodigy may seem kind of cruel as he's done it for Eli Manning and Leinart in his last two stops...

I know Shanahan seems to have dibbs on bending over Snyder, but I'd still like to work some sort of deal that involves Moss and Portis...

That list of QB's will get murdered behind our current line. I'm really warming up to Russell and think Carr could be a good fit. At least he's already used to getting his head ripped off. I hope Cable can get this Oline together quickly. The kind of blocking they provided last year could ruin a young prospect.

I think Bledsoe would be more of an Al move than Brunell... although I'd prefer neither.

I'm warming up to Portis especially if we go to a zone blocking scheme like Kiffen alluded to. I suspect we'll have to throw in a draft pick prolly a 3 or 4. Portis is still young and we won't have to use the second pick on a RB then.

That's like beyond dead... after dead...

a zombie :D

That list of QB's would likely get murdered behind the AFC Pro Bowl line... Strictly offered as a break glass in case of emergency, mentor back-up to a young guy... I actually think Brad Johnson would make for a good back-up... Played in both a WCO and a vertical Denny Green offense...

Id give up Lamont, Moss, Porter and our 2nd rounder.

Wow.

Davis would be sore for a week if Snyder stuck it in his dumper that hard...

Moss+LJ or

Moss+2nd or

JP+2nd

But not ALL 4 pieces.

Thats getting owned hard for a RB that is undersized and oft injured.

Personally, Id only make a trade that mortgages our 3 best offensive players for a top flight QB or RB, and I wouldnt throw in a top 33 pick in the fuckin draft as well...

I agree that trade seems to be one sided (though I think Jordan is a salary dump), but you don't consider Portis to be a top flight RB?... I know he was hurt this past season, but I believe he posted 1500+ yards in every one of his 4 seasons prior....

As stated in my note, it wouldn't be to obtain Brunell per say as the savior but rather Al would "off-load" Moss and Stu to get that number (6) pick and then throw the old vet in as part of the package. Al basically thinking that everyone has wrote the guy off and he would be the vet who rode the pine, mentored and then came off in an important game to pull out a victory or two. The whole Al mantra of I told you so.

I would give Moss and Schwag up in a MINUTE to get that number 6 pick.

I respect your opinion more than most fans brother, but I honestly put Portis on the 'borderline' when talking about top tier RB's.

Take out his Denver seasons, where anyone rushes for a ton of yards, and you have three seasons in Washington where his average was a pretty pedestrian 3.8,4.3 and 4.1 YPC.

Add his mediocre 7-11-5 TD seasons on an average Redskins team, and his inability to stay healthy for 3 out of 5 seasons and you have a guy who 'Might' be worth a second rounder...At best.

His gamebreaking speed seems to be dwindling too. He went from busting 10+ 20 yard runs a year on a great Denver team to getting 2-3 a year in Washington.

Overrated, IMO.

I'd rather trade a 3rd rounder or Moss straight up for McGahee who comes cheaper financially and draft pick-player wise...

25 touches in 3 seasons?

The redskins had the worst offense in the league in 2004 and Portis had a fine season for them... he was their offense.

Who has Portis had to take pressure off him?... an occasional bomb to Moss(the good one :D ) in 2005? That offense hasn't had any consistency or balance... That passing game has consitently been in the bottom 3rd/4th, but Portis has consistenty given them a top running game.

Anyhow I'd take Portis big play ability over McGee everyday, I just don't see the two as comparable, although I agree that Port is somewhat overrated because he isn't a traditional pounder, but it seems that we're installing his preferred blocking scheme here and I gotta believe facing the Rat every year would motivate.

Guy's just a producer, his game is similar to Garner and Bush.

Yeah, Portis hasn't been quite as productive, but you can't really blame him in that offense. And he's only 25. He kinda reminds me of a smaller, kinda poor man's LT in the way they run and their elusiveness.

no way is he top flight. he isnt a bum and he proved that after the denver stigma. but his durability issues arent to my liking and he isnt close to as explosive as he was in denver. in fact it took him 100 plus more carries to get to his yardage with only half as many 20+ game breakers.

can he resurge in our zone blocking scheme? i'm not so sure at this point. I'd prefer not to have him unless it was on the cheap.
