This is clearly hypothetical, given the shape of the offense compared to the defense, but what if Al Davis and company go with a slipping D player at the 33 spot?

We're talking:

Posluszny;
Tank Tyler;
Anthony Spencer;
Carriker;
Jarvis Moss;
Brandon Merriweather;
Michael Griffin;

Etc...

With the holes on offense, would it chap any of you guys if he skipped OL, WR and TE at the 33 spot and wen't in a different direction?

I keep looking at scenarios and it keeps getting more and more likely in my eyes, that Rob Ryan might get his pick of the litter at that spot.

Just a though.

Not at all, with the defense being 2-3 players away from Dominance, I'd have no problem with one or two day-1 draft picks. In fact, I think we SHOULD do that regardless of the needs on offense. Just my 2 pesos of course.

If defense presents the BPA ,then no issue at all. A great defense can make up for a slightly crappier offense.

Is it a different story if he reaches in round 2 for a D guy, when superior offensive options are there? (IE: Staley, Kalil Rice, Meachem, Bowe, Ginn are passed on)

I agree but you know Al likes to reach for those db's with 4.3 speed:p
I think Rob Ryan may get a say after the second round but most likely not with the first two picks. We always seem to find a second day defensive gem anyhow.

As it stand, we have what? 5 first day selections? I think 2 will go to the defense.....

4 day one selections (1 first, 1 second, 2 thirds) and ten overall picks.

If we go with a defensive player who is just head and shoulders the best player available, I wouldn't be mad at all. In fact, if it were a defensive tackle or defensive end, I wouldn't be mad regardless. If we take a second round linebacker or a second round defensive back, like I said, they'd have to be head and shoulders above the rest to not illicit at least a groan from me.

If it were Carriker, I'd be pretty freakin' elated, actually.

4? Why did I think it was 5?

Anyway, I still say that the Raiders will split this pretty evenly. I think it's Pat Kerwin that states you can get OLineman "all day" from rounds 4 thru 7.

I think we'll see QB, OT (or C), DE & DT on day-1.

I don't disagree with that, per se, given Kevin Boothe last year... but look at our recent history with defensive linemen late in the draft and it's pretty damned good, too:

Grady Jackson
Rod Coleman
Tommy Kelly (undrafted)
Antajj Hawthorne (although he hasn't blown up, he's been getting more playing time in a good rotation. Not bad for a 6th)

Can't disagree, I guess I'm just pontificating on how I would approach it. Of course the Raiders could easily chase the Day-1 TE that many are screaming for (or a slipping WR with great upside).

In the end, I have no damn clue what the Raiders will do. I NEVER guess these things correctly anyway.

I will predict that we take someone from USC however. :)

I'm not excited about too many of these DT's, but a Jarvis Moss? That'd be cool. I could live with Harrell.

Heck, we've been begging for a DE since I don't know when. Tuck, Roth, Kiwi, Mario. You won't hear me complain.

If we still have the 33rd pick, which I doubt, I think there'll be one defensive player that jumps out, and a few O-linemen and WRs.

I could see the Raiders choosing between:

Kalil
Ugoh
Rice
Moss

I dunno, the only locks among the DL for the 1st round are Adams, Carriker, Jamaal Anderson, Okoye, and Branch. And all those guys will be in the first half of the round. Can you imagine no one in the 2nd half of the 1st round taking a DL? I can't. I figure Moss and Harrell could go as well.

If Moss is gone, I'd just as soon wait till the 3rd, and see if a Moses/Crowder/Alama-Francis was there.

It'll all be moot in less than a month when the Raiders trade up.

Don't forget La'Roi Glover. OK, he didn't do much for us, but it still speaks to our scouting of late-round DLs.

if theres a good DE, DT, or great SLB I'm ok with it.

Maybe even a great S.

however if there are a bunch of average guys at D and equally average guys on O we need to go O.
