QB Q. Gray Wants Out, Won't Sign Tender
Michael C. Wright, Florida Times-Union - [Full Article]

QB Byron Leftwich is "the guy," HC Jack Del Rio told the Times-Union on Thursday at the NFL Combine. That decision might have sealed the fate of No. 3 QB Quinn Gray, who expected to compete for the starting job. A restricted free agent, Gray expects the Jaguars to extend him a tender offer for 2007. "But I'm not signing a tender," he said. "I'm going to try to go somewhere else before I sign a tender here. I'm quite sure Jacksonville won't match an offer from another team."

I gotta be honest, the name isn't registering at all... What's his story Jack?...

I've watched him since he went to FAMU.

But he in NFL Europe and won the World Bowl, then lit up the Chiefs at the end of the season last year in a close loss.

He's big, physical and athletic. And he should be adjusted to the speed of the pro game by now.

id be ok bringing him in as the 3rd guy on the team. i dont think hes ready for a starting job judging by the game i saw of him last year.

The Jags are like $30+ million under the cap. Seems like any offer sheet to Gray would be easily matched unless it paid him a lot more then what the Jags think he's worth.

The Jags are not likely to keep all three that are currently on their roster. Two are starters, and one considers himself to be. That is a problem they'll have to deal with. Someone is getting sent out of town before the season.

Would you pay to match for a guy who was third string and didn't want to be on your team?

I'd be willing to bring the guy in to compete with Walter and JaMarcus Russell to see who starts for '07. If Russell is truly not ready to be a day-1 starter (which I think will be true) then let Walter and this kid fight it out, the loser is the backup, and Russell is the talk of the scout team.

Depends on money. I mean, they don't want someone to come scoop him up for the league minimum, but you also wouldn't want to pay your third-stringer much more than that, either.
