A good friend and a fellow life-long Raider fan has come into some very hard times and while he has been completely self-sufficient and self-reliant since his accident and subsequent paralysis many years ago, he is in a bad way both physically and financially and is humbly asking for help. He needs a procedure to help mitigate the pain and physical issues associated with long-term paralysis and much of the costs are not covered by health care. And, because of the increased physical limitations, he has not been able to work as many hours as normal, thus further inreasing the circular problem of diminishing finances and paying for rising health care costs.

Currently, he needs to pay for a procedure (and related bureaucratic steps for approval) to implant a device that will stop involuntary muscle spasms, which should allow him to return to work and self sufficiency.

If you can afford to chip in even just $5, $20, or whatever you are able, please do. If you are so inclined, please also feel free to pass on the following link to whomever you can. Larry is an amazing guy and I call him as friend and family. He deserves better, and I hope we can help him out. Please visit the webpage and if you are able, donate a few bucks. Individually, $10 or $20 may not be much, but if enough people contribute, it could make all the difference in the world.

Thanks for reading / listening.

Sincerely,

Art "Turo" Nikisch

I'll throw in some money for him...

... but Medicare does cover that procedure. Kind of ironic because the company I work for markets a competing product for spinal cord injuries... If you get a chance, ask him if his doc ever recommended a "spinal cord stimulator" as opposed to the pump... Would save him a grip of money in copays down the road (since he wouldn't have a procedure every 3 months to replenish that drug reservoir).

I'll pass that on, thanks for the advice (I have no idea if he already knows about this or not.. probably?) He said that he's been getting the run around from Medicare on gaining approval or pre-approval on the procedure and that depending on who he is talking to it either is or is not covered.. and only partially in some instances. Sounds totally frustrating (but what else is new with government interaction, really).

And, thanks for doing what you can. I know he appreciates it, and so do I. The guy really is a fighter and deserves better.. it's a shitty hand he was dealt, for sure.

Thanks Turo. I'll be sending something later today. Sorry to hear this about RR. I never met him but did converse with him some in the past.

While billionaires run around without paying taxes a guy like this gets the run around from the government when he really needs help. Not right.
