A million threads on the various candidates, etc.

My personal opinion? No fucking clue to be honest, but if pressed, my early read is that Rob Ryan gets the nod, but either Sarkissian or Lofton become the OC/co-head coach. This is based on nothing at all of course.

I was stating last week that I hoped Al would decide quickly, but now that most jobs have been filled and the Raiders aren't coaching the Senior Bowl, I'm inclined to be more patient. Why not?

Al has a known short-list of about 3-4 coaches that we're aware of and other's that we probably aren't.

Besides, let's face facts, this could very well be the most important hire Al Davis has ever made and on a sad note, quite likely his last hire.

I'm not preparing for a more lengthy search...

I just hope the Pats lose this weekend so we can get their OC out here for an interview and make a decision finally.

And if they don't lose, I hope Al doesn't wait until February and drag this thing out. Go with Sark, Lofton, or Ryan and start evaluating current assistants in an effort to fill out the staff.

I just want that damn thing done .. and not with a fucking retread this time.

Well it's not like anyone is beating the dorrs down to hire these guys, although I concur that I'd like to have a staff in place this week.

HC: Steve Sarkisian

Asst HC/QB's: Marc Trestman

OC: James Lofton

Hey what's going on here. Now 'The Pineapple King' is an insider? WTF?

I hope you're right.

I could live with that. Just hope to hell we bring in a good OL coach.

I shook Natty's Chrome Magic Ballsack, laughed that Yoda actually used the word "exponentially" in the James Lofton thread and flailed away with names...

That's just how us Insiders roll....

Marty is staying in SD so cross him off any list you all have putting together.....they also offered him and additional year and he turned it down....that interesting.

I'm all about hiring the right guy for the job, whomever that turns out to be. I don't really care how long it takes to fined him but like most of you, I feel that sooner would be better than later for a number of reasons.

My gut tells me that Rob Ryan would be the best choice. To me the head coach needs to be a "leader of men" and the x's and o's part is secondary (hence the need for coordinators). I want a guy who can take charge, get his troops ready to battle, execute the gameplan week in and week out, and kick some ass if necessary.

Sarkisian, Lofton, and McDanniels all apparently have tremendous offensive skills but are extremely inexperienced as leaders. Fassell and Green are just the type of retreads we can do without. RR knows the deal in Oakland and he has earned the respect from his players. To me it makes the most sense, especially if you can bring in a young, up-and-coming offensive coordinator like the Sark.

Looks like Marty is staying in SD and if Cameron leaves, that would put a monkey wrench into the plans to hire Lofton as OC. Doesn't really make sense for him to leave IMO if they offer him the gig.

I could live with a RR HC/Sark OC scenario.

I can't say I disagree with this line of thinking... That's why, and I know I'm rowing this particular boat by myself, I'd love to bring in a Dick Vermeil for a couple of years... Yeah he is older than dirt, but it gives us a known successful, motivator that will allow Sark and Ryan to do their thing while prepping for the HC spot in a few years...

If this were my team, Mike Singletary would already be the head coach, just because I think he is the ultimate leader of men, motivator and teacher.... Surround him with young, smart coordinators like Ryan, Sark or that guy from the Pats... Once Samurai Mike gets a HC gig, I think alot of teams will look back and wonder why they didn't go with him...

I also agree with freakshow about getting a real leader in. This makes it less of a deal that Lofton and Sarkisian have not been OC in the league. If we take that approach then the OC hire becomes very important although it is going to be just as important if we promote Ryan. I think we all want to come out of this with a real leader for HC along with capable co-ordinators. If we could get the Oline coaching sorted out then we really will be golden.

I have reached a point where it's just painful to speculate on who we will draft, or who we will hire.

It hurts my head.

Obviously Singletary was a tremendous leader on the field. Few have done it better. But last year after seeing him in action at the combine (on NFL Network) I knew right then that this cat can flat out coach. He's tough as nails, hard working, focused, intense, classy, and knows what it takes to reach the top. Now that's the kind of guy you can get behind as a teammate and a fan. I know great players don't always translate into great coaches but something about him makes a believer out of me. He'd be numero uno in my book as well HB, nice call right there.
