General NFL News Thread - 2026

I thought the Rams under McVay were his ideal fit, so it didn't seem crazy to me to begin with. I just thought they might have moved back, but just like I said about Penix when the Falcons did it, if you say QB is the most important position in football, why wouldn't you take a guy in the first round if you like him and you have a starter in the twilight of his career?
I hope Simpson busts.

I still don’t think taking Simpson at 1.13 was the right move for them, especially now with the Garrett trade. You’re going all-in, you don’t need to reach for your QBOTF at 13th overall.

The only real thing limiting their ability to stay competitive for multiple seasons is Stafford's age. Getting a guy for relatively cheap to groom was a smart move, IMO. The bigger issue is McVay not wanting him.

They fell short last year even with Stafford playing at an MVP level… adding Garrett is amazing but adding more talent around Stafford or for that defense would’ve been how I would’ve went. Just my opinion on what to do when you’re that close to a championship, if you’re going to go all-in then I’d want my first round pick to reflect that too.

They got the CB from KC too. It was overall very much a win now offseason. There's no guarantee a rookie would even be contributing by the time Stafford is done.

The defensive backfield was the biggest discrepancy on that team. All three games with the Seahawks, Darnold threw for a billion against them. I probably use that pick on a lineman because that's the thing that could fuck your team up quicker than anything, but I don't see an issue with the way they went with it.

If Simpson doesn't work out, they will just trade for Burrow.

Or signe Kyler Murray after the Midwest Farm Vikings fixes him. They were saying that Stafford was in his ear about coming to be his backup in LA, which I thought was bullshit, but you never know. I thought that would have been a shrewd move for both parties too, but then one of McVay's disciples got on him first.

Pretty sure he'd struggle to clear the "No douchebags" filter. Great player, but he talks too much.

We'll revisit this when his trade window opens. I don't think they're keeping him. Too much shit going on to give him a market topping contract for them. We'll definitely come up considering the personal and professional ties if we show enough progress before then. I'm never a fan of FA or trading for superstar diva receivers, but I suspect we might be in that boat again soon to help the Franchise.

That championship game was closer than I thought it was. I guess I got it mixed up with the 49ers, who the Seahawks impregnated. For some reason I thought they had pulled off on the Rams late and won by like ten or two TDs, but it was only a four-point game where their defense literally couldn't stop them.

If what I think I'm looking at is correct, they have Garrett for 3 years at a super reasonable price ($9m, $16m, $21m) and then can cut bait with no dead cap. I'm sure it's a little more complicated than that, but he doesn't appear to be a barrier to them doing other deals.
Cle’s carrying $41.1M in dead money over two years—having only paid Garrett $5M of the new money added last year. Ouch. Snead’s killing it.

More like 47MM, it's batty. And then Watson's going to be June 1st next season, so that'll add a whammy there, and the year after.

Rams’ approach is fascinating - taking big swings instead of paying young stars.

Sources say L.A. is giving early impressions it won’t extend 2027 FAs Puka Nacua, Byron Young, Kobie Turner, Steve Avila this summer. Perhaps that changes but deals are not on the radar right now.

Intriguing...
That’s one heck of a Day 2 & 3 draft. Snead might be in no hurry. He’s looking at 4 in-season tradable assets or post-FA comp picks, where he can replace them. Or, he can get one or more of them done prior to FA next year.

Snead still has $16.3M in cap space, although Garrett, McDuffie and J. Watson are cheap this year (and in Garrett’s case next year too). Cle and KC subsidized much of Snead’s big offseason. But Garrett’s out of guaranteed money after ‘27, so he might be getting paid again soon. McDuffie’s cap number jumps $20M in ‘27 (it’s only $10M this year). J. Watson’s cap hit jumps $16M in ‘27 (it’s only $7M this year).

Rams doing the right thing.

They are on the verge of a Championship. Take the points!
I’m not rooting for this to go well. If Garrett has a big impact early, the trade deadline chatter around Crosby could reach unprecedented levels of annoying.

Considering Garrett had a no trade clause and the Browns recently restructured his deal to make his contract more tradeable, I’m convinced Garrett discreetly asked to be traded behind the scenes and his agent probably had a lot to do with brokering this deal…. This might be the new (and better) blueprint to forcing a trade. Get that no trade / no tag clause and make the request quietly. A lot less collateral damage than Crosby’s loud mouth approach. Karma seems to be undefeated in these situations.

Yeah, it's just a pet peeve of mine. Kind of like the opposite of how we've done it when we're clearly not an 'all in' team and then we go trade for Richard Seymour or some shit. And, to me, you can find a Ty Simpson in any draft class... not like some top level QB prospect dropped and you had to pull the trigger. Go draft Kenyon Saddiq or Makai Lemon along with trading for McDuffie and Garrett and give yourself an even better shot at winning a SB in 2027 and 2028.

I agree with your analysis on him, but if they truly think Simpson is the guy, well, draft him.

The Rams were one fourth down stop in the red zone away from taking the lead on Seattle. The NFC Championship Game was the real Super Bowl. The loss burns even more when placed in context.

IMO the Rams were the better team last year. Shit happens but Seattle was lucky to get by them.

The Rams will be stronger this year.

The move to draft Simpson was a good one. Will he pan out? Nobody knows. He has probably two years to get tutored by Stafford...and then we'll see. The Rams may end up with a Super Bowl ring or two and the last laugh.

Bro, what?
