This one is pretty logical on the surface, but seeing the actual split is still striking. 35 of 64 projected starting NFL tackles entering 2026 were 1st-round picks. Only 18 of 96 projected starting guards/centers were.

54.7% vs. 18.8%.

Tackles are nearly 3x as likely to come from Round 1.

This is a really awesome find. It also helps explain this absolutely insane stat. From 2001-19, the Patriots made 9.4% more of their field goals than their opponents. No other team in the NFL in that span was even at +4.0%

I wonder what the LT/RT split is.

I don't even get what point they are trying to make. Teams draft tackles in the first round much more often than interior linemen. To go in the first round as an interior you need to be really special. OT get snatched up on measurables because it's such an important position and higher priced salaries. So fucking duh teams draft more OT in first round than interior and therefore more OT are first rounders starting around the league.

Why's that shocking? Tackles, particularly left tackle, have always been in coaches' premium positions. It goes QB, elite pass rusher, left tackle, and elite cornerback. We went 50 years drafting two QBs, have drafted two top ten tackles in 25 years, and have whiffed on the other two regularly with premium picks. So it's not a mystery why this franchise has sucked in that same timeframe.

Not his fault Grucock took him with a top five pick. Funny part is we have three of the worst linemen draft picks in the last ten years between him, Wilson, and Pleatherwood. You have to try to intentionally be this bad at drafting.

Sources: The #Jets had 8x All-Pro K Justin Tucker, Michael Badgley and Josh Karty in for a workout today.

The Jets recently claimed Blake Grupe off waivers and have Jason Sanders on the practice squad, but kicker is a position the team will continue to closely evaluate. Today’s workout is the latest part of that due diligence.


At least they're trying.
