I know he made himself look bad towards the end with the radio comments, but the guy sure has energy and enthusiasm...

It's no secret that I thought it was a big mistake trying to reign Mike Vick in and make him a pocket passer in the WCO, but I put that on Greg Knapp since Mora's forte is defense... Had they approached every game like they did the Dallas game and let Vick loose on the edge with a run/pass option, they would have been really tough to defend...

Bill Walsh has said that Mora would be his coach of choice if he were in charge of a team, and I believe recomended him to Al prior to Mora taking the Falcon job... He's techniquely a retread but is only 44 years old...

I read somewhere that Mora firmly believes in letting his coordinators call their own games and that he runs every practice at an aggressive, two minute drill pace...

His strength is said to be the ability to communicate with coaches and his team....

Of course this may also mean that Alex Gibbs could be back with the Raiders (should of never let him go) to help with the O-line... ironically, that one cut and go blocking scheme is tailor made for a certain RB out of Oklahoma...

Not my first choice, but provided he is paired with a guy like Sarkisian at OC instead of Knapp, I wouldn't complain...

Yay or nay?...

And as soon as Whittington gets shit canned at Washington Mora will be pulling a Slick Nick. You can bet on that. I heard that interview live and he wasn't joking (obviously). Kinda of a smart as punk but hell I dunno. Has a lot of Mora, Sr. in him that's for sure. Guess that's not all bad though. I still think Al wants an offensive minded HC.

So how much of the tab would Arthur Blank be picking up? The higher the number the greater the chance this guy gets the job. Al is on the hook to Shell/Walsh for something like $2.5 million.

This is from PFT and if you switch the Cards to the Raiders and Bidwell to Al, they may have well been talking about us:

Cardinals: How about Jim Mora Jr? He can be paid less money, since Falcons owner Arthur Blank is on the hook for the difference between what Mora will earn in football and what he was scheduled to make in Atlanta. For the next three years. That's a big plus for the penny-squeezing Bidwills, who also are less likely to realize the serious judgment flaw that Mora's much-publicized radio comments revealed. And Mora's desire to get back on the horse will make him more likely to accept whatever terms the Bidwills impose, including having seven of Denny Green's assistant coaches foisted on him.

I'm actually warming more and more to the notion of Junior coming to Oakland. I guess I should go answer the top three thread, huh?

So what does that mean? Al gets to pay him 1 penny a year.

We already have a defensive option that knows our schemes and players. I don't see what Mora Jr. brings to the table that we can't get from Ryan.

FWIW, Falcon fans seem to think alot about the guy: http://boards.atlantafalcons.com/index.php?showtopic=216470&st=0
Yep they liked the guy. Maybe Vick was a coach killer. Trying to work around the guys deficiencies. Hell this is a passing league and if you can't pass the rock...ummmm...well we'll see about Jimbo .... it wouldn't be a bad hire. I just think he's kind of a punk but if he's wearing Silver & Black, I'm in 100%.

This is my one reservation about the guy. How much of a clash would there be between him and Ryan? Wouldn't Mora want to bring in his system?

Other than that, I'm warming to the guy.

The odds of Gibbs following him over are likely nil, though. I thought I heard he was nearing retirement.

Again I feel semi irked that he didnt even give us a shot at hiring him when we contacted him(kinda be nice to see him grovel for the job to bring balance to the force) and that he's a not anything like rob ryan as a defensive coach. I dont want him plotting on replacing Ryan. Though he probably wont have to. I honestly think Ryan is DC for someone else if we dont upgrade him or upgrade his pay(the latter doesnt happen in oakland for coordinators)

My memory may be jacked up, but didn't Atlanta blow off a scheduled interview with Nick Saban and give Mora a pretty good sized contract and carte blanche on his staff because they were so impressed with his interview?...

Hard to fault the guy, on one hand you have a good sized firm offer in hand with complete control over staff... a young roster and an owner with deep pockets...

On the other hand you have a team flirting with Denny Green, an owner known to be stingy with coaches pay, an owner known to drag his feet through the interview process, a roster that needed to be turned over and little control over staff...

My Raider affiliation aside, that wouldn't be a hard choice for me...

Mora must really present himself well in interviews because I believe he was also the Bears first choice that year after nailing their interview...

Didn't we just do this prior to the season?... Short of a head coaching offer, Rob's here two more years minimum... maybe we could giove him a bump up to Asst head coach and a bump in pay to boot if Mora is indeed the choice...

Of the head coaches available with NFL HC experience, I definitley like Mora... The one thing that concerns me is Atlanta fans felt he put too much faith in his coordinators and didn't step in and make changes when he should have.... A fine line I guess...

One thing I mentioned to Bones is I think hiring Mora as opposed to Ryan or Shoop (gag), may make it easier to sell free agents on Oakland...

At the very least the trio of Mora, Ryan and Sarkisian in charge should inject some life into the team with the kind of energy they put out...

Playoffs, Playoffs? That just sucked!!!

I still say we need to keep it in house.

Ryan was "granted" permission to interview which means he requested.

I believe the guys earned the right, hell, he's the only coach who has proven he can get it done.

Shoop off to NC to talk to Trestman?

I love it.. Not Shoop but Trestman

He was our OC from 2001-2003, those 3 years we kicked ass coming and going on offense and went to the SB. He leaves and everything takes a dump on us.

Shoop had his chance and really didnt impress me. He certainly called a better game than Walsh ever did, but God Damn.. Can we get a corner fade pass to the corner of the endzone when we're in the redzone just fuckin once? Jesus Christ...

We dont need Mora coming in here and clashing with Ryan.. You guys know its going to come, and when the shit hits the fam if Mora is coach it will be Ryan that is let go..

I dont wanna see that happen man

Naw man.. Appoint the guy that has earned it and the respect of the players

Rob Ryan

Think John Madden, sort the same thingy

Rob Ryan as HC/DC

Rich Gannon QB coach/ assistant coach.. put him up in the box so he can help out managing the clock and communicating directly with Trestman

Marc Trestman OC

Shoop? Later dude

Appoint the guy that has earned it and the respect of the players
Thats where I'm at. I'm tired of the "new rules" discipline transition every year. Just get an OC to teach the offense and let Ryan handle the players. IMO this jobis no more attractive with Mora than Ryan. They both are gonna strictly attract former players they knew, outside of that it'll be the same IMO. But I could be wrong.

Either way the main thing is that I want the guy who all the players respect ahead of time as HC. Proven leader to respect is cool, but proven leader amongst your players already is the best transition i think. And regardless of how many years on his contract, i doubt we hate on him going elsewhere if he gets a better offer.

Marc Trestman OC

Unfortunately, unless you want a seen like when buddy ryan punched gilbride. I dont think they should be anywhere near each other. Gannon was no fan of trestmen.

Well sounds like my man Ryan is in a good mood!

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan left team headquarters in the passenger seat of a sedan and gave the thumbs-up sign Friday. But he gave no indication whether his grin meant he could be the Raiders' next head coach.

Also you have the love the way the team respects how he deals with them.

Confusion reigned on offense, where players questioned the playbook and how they were being coached.

That wasn't a problem on defense, where players said Ryan was an effective leader. Shell allowed Ryan to run the defense without interference and focused on offense.

"He's a straight shot," Schweigert said of Ryan. "There are no questions. He always gives you a reason why."

Seraph24 YOUR KILLING ME WITH THAT AVATAR.....SO I am changing mine........

Maaan if we could get Sarkisian to come in and play OC for Mora I would be ecstatic. Dude got caught up in that Washington thing, but I really like him as a head coach. I think he gets a lot out of his players. I would hate to see Sarkisian leave SC, but I have a hard time seeing that guy calling Raider plays as a bad thing. And as long as Kiffin is around, I don't think we suffer too much.
