First off, I should state right up front that I was listening to Serius on the way out the door tonight and heard (I think Carl Banks?) say that Robert Gallery was moving to Guard as though it was going to happen.

Didn't hear the entire context and I haven't seen anything anywhere else to support this, but it does make for an interesting discussion.

Let's say this is true and he is moving to Guard, which seems dubious with Carlise, Boothe & Mcquistan in the picture, but I digress.

How would we feel about that?

The immediate reaction would be to scream BUST at the top of our collective lungs, but I guess I'd rather seem him play well at OG than crappy at OT.

Thoughts?

I heard that he was playing well all week with heavy reps at LT. I hope this isnt true, we have enough guards...

i agree that id rather him play extremely well at G then crappy at OT... but there is 0 chance we move him to guard. the reason being is we have 0 players that are an upgrade at LT

Sort of what I thought too. Hard to believe that we'd be convinced that Sims, Slaughter & the rookie Henderson are better options at T.

Anyone else hear that conversation on Serius? I'm hoping I'm missing the larger context or something?

It could happen, but I would say we are pretty deep at guard (Boothe-Carlisle-McQ-Hulsey-Grove) and the fact Gallery has played LT almost exclusively in the last two mini camps would point in another direction...

Do guards typically have shorter arms than tackles? That's something we absolutely need to find out.

Don't forget Claxton,,, Galllery will not be moved to guard, He will either start at left or right tackle.......

Time to get some more mileage out of this one?

I guess this just uninformed speculation by Carl Banks then.

Besides, Gallery seams a bit upright and not bulky (or powerful?) enough to play OG. It almost seems to me that he makes it as an OT or he's out? Could be wrong, I don't know nearly enough about offensive line play really know if he could play the OG position well?

..then again, maybe it does have 'legs' ?????

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

If this happens, I'd love to see Mario Henderson or Pat McQuistan play well in camp and secure at least one of the OT spots.

The though of Barry Sims starting anywhere along this line is.....not good.

I don't think Mario Henderson is anywhere near ready to become a starter yet.

Probably not, but if Gallery is going to be a Guard, I guess that means Sims & Slaughter as the top OT's on the roster. Does that blow your socks off? Not mine.

Again, I'd love to see Henderson and possibly even McQuistan step up and win at least one of the OT jobs this season. Both would be great.

I'm venturing far off into dream world, but imagine if Gallery & Grove "wake up" at LG & C, and Henderson, McQuistan and Boothe settle in at LT, RT and RG respectively.

LT - Henderson
LG - Gallery
OC - Grove
RG - Boothe
RT - McQuistan

Talk about young with plenty of time to grow together. I know, I know, it will never happen.

Im not super worried about the OL alignment in OTA's.

I'll be more shocked if Gallery is a guard in week three of the preseason.

I still think that Gallery will be our LT (And a solid one in the new scheme).

The coaches better be careful with this. Make a decision early and stay with it. This musical chairs on that OL the last three years has been awful. Unless the new coaching staff wants to lose the players early they better get this shit straight quickly.

I agree with 007 I'm betting Gallery is our LT.

You guys are probably right. No way that we are banking on Sims/Slaughter/Henderson/McQuistan to be certain answers at the OT slots. No way.

Then again, if the best move for Gallery is OG, I'm all for it. If he could either become the next Steve Hutchinson as a Guard or the next (fill in the blank) average OT, then I'd go with the move to Guard. I guess that's the biggest 'No Duh' of the century, but I'm just hoping to salvage something, anything out this draft pick.

Still, it does seem that we have more depth at Guard than Tackle.

Who the hell knows.

Bones - I think this is precisely what the OTA's are for. This is final analysis for Kiffin & Co. and once they hit camp, I think they will have a pretty good idea where most of these guys are best suited.

JMHO of course.

Lets hope Gallery isnt moved to guard. That would be a sign that he is not worht squat. I hope he can still hack it at LT. He needs 1 thing...confidence.

Who's the LT if Big Rob is moved? Henderson? Sims for a year? Slaughter in this scheme?

I still think Robert Gallery represents the best option at LT for us...

I could be wrong, and I also could be "spinning" a bit, but I thought in this system, OG's are every bit as important as OT's. In fact, with all the moving, pulling & cutting that the Guards are asked to do, one could make an arguement that solid Guard/Center play is almost more important than OT play?

BTW, guys like Hutchinson & Dielman are making BIG BANK for a reason and perhaps the Raiders figure that Gallery has All-Pro potential at Guard in this system?

Just a thought.
