Fuck you, AP

Didn't Josh McDaniel's say the same thing last year?

Pierce maintained that execution and lack of detail are bigger issues than play calling

#Raiders HC Antonio Pierce said they don't have an identity on offense right now.

Every bad coach blames execution.

Oh they have an identity, it’s just they identify as a flaming pile of dogshit.

When AP gets fired, my first call is to Gordon Ramsay. We can watch him save our sorry franchise on the weekly television show he'd film while doing it.

He couldn't flop any harder than Mark the Martian has.

Biggest disappointment on the season so far might be the defense's regression. 4th season with Graham's system and we're going backwards, not going to be an easy conversation to have at the end of the season if that continues. Injuries haven't helped, sure, but guys like Jack Jones have regressed. AP and Graham will both have to answer for that.

What if I told you the defense wasnt actually good last year and we unfortunately dont get to face Easton Stick, Josh Dobbs, Tyler Bagent, Tommy Devito and Gardner Minshew this season?

what if GIF

I don't watch that closely but I feel like the defense even with the injuries has been the only semi-bright spot.
Mattison ran the ball 14 times for 15 yards on Sunday. Defense gets left on the field all day with this inept offense and then when they get handed an easy score on a silver platter by the D they shit the bed at the goal line. Has to be demoralizing to play defense for this team. I think if we had a functioning NFL offense the D would be viewed in a much better light.

Maybe in other games, yes, but KC went 12-for-16 on third down. The defense kept itself on the field.

I agree - I think the defense has been pretty solid this year. There's been a couple of games where they've been poor, but I think most Ds in today's NFL will get weeks like that. This ain't the mid-80s anymore and the NFL wants to see offense.

I think there's been some bright spots too - Butler is showing up well again and I think Deablo has been good since he came back from injury. Bennett is pretty solid. I also think Jack Jones had his best game in some time on Sunday - he was much more physical in the run game than he has been previously.

I think this is a good defense and it would be madness to tear it up and fire Graham at the end of the season. Having said that, I do worry about a letdown from them the longer the season goes on.

Yes, that was disappointing. Until Sunday they've been very good in third downs but not on Sunday.

Problem is, Mahomes is a very good quarterback. And it seemed on every third down either he hit someone at the sticks or he ran around and then managed to scramble to the sticks on plays when the D would have stopped about 28 other quarterbacks in the league.

Shit happens. But the trend for the D is still in a good direction. I still don't think the D is really good - there's not been a single game (since Christmas Day last year) when the D has won the game for the team, but still. They're doing ok.

The biggest issues with the defense aside from getting no help from the offense has been injuries and Jack Jones regressing to the mean. I’m still slightly in the pro Patrick Graham corner but not enough to lose sleep over him being a casualty of a regime change.

If Raiders move on from AP, Vrabel, given his ties to Brady, becomes one of the top candidates...the excerpt below is from a January 2024 article.

I'm just reposting since this would be a strong possibility, again only if they move on from AP.

NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated explained for a piece published Friday afternoon how former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady wanting to become a limited partner of the Las Vegas Raiders could result in the Raiders hiring former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel as their new head coach this winter.

"Brady and Vrabel were very close over eight years as teammates and have maintained a relationship since," Breer noted. "Brady’s respect for Vrabel would likely put him at the top of any list he’d give (Raiders owner Mark Davis). And the Raiders, of course, could offer Vrabel a roster that got to 8–9 despite all the tumult this season..."

Not saying it's bullshit but Mark Davis going the "Patriot Way" again after the last complete disaster doesn't seem likely to me.

I'm not saying Vrabel is a guy I want but he was 54-45 as a HC. He'll get looks this year.

Agree he's not a terrible choice. Didn't have a QB but had a tough squad.
Maybe we ought to have a GM who picks the HC. If you are Vrabel do you want to hitch your wagon to Telescope knowing that the volatile tool in the corner office could clean house after next year? Nah. No.

Edit: kinda worded that weird but I think the smart ones here understand. 🧐

The spin there lies in him never coaching with New England. So, technically, he never learned the Patriot Way of coaching.

I think Mark wants a sexier name than Vrabel.
