So I was dreaming about a scenario involving a trade down with Atlanta, and since it is a rainy night and I'm bored.... I decided to go ahead and flesh it out.

Using the Draft Value Chart (http://www.theredzone.org/2006/draft/draftvaluechart.asp) , it would take all of Atlanta's tradeable picks plus 2008 2nd and 5th to equal the value to trade up from 8 to 1. But if we did take the deal, what would our draft actually look like?

Using the EllisMock as a guide, I decided to make selections based only on who was available at a particular pick. I also included a trade of Randy Moss to GB for their 3rd and 4th (below the 2nd rd. value we are asking for right now). Here is what I came up with:

1(8) LaRon Landry, FS, LSU (From ATL)

2(33) Marshawn Lynch, RB, Cal

2(39) Ryan Kalil, C, USC (From ATL via Houston)

2(44) Steve Smith, WR, USC (From ATL)

3(65) Doug Free, OT, Northern Illinois

3(75) Kevin Kolb, QB, Houston (From ATL)

3(78) Marshall Yanda, OG, Iowa (From GB)

3(99) Josh Beekman, OG, Boston College (Comp)

4(100) Scott Chandler, TE, Iowa

4(109) Rory Johnson, LB, Mississippi (From ATL)

4(112) David Clowney, WR, Virginia Tech (From GB)

4(121) Adam Koets, OT, Oregon (From ATL)

5(138) Tarell Brown, CB, Texas

5(149) Walter Thomas, DT, NW Miss. C.C (From ATL)

5(165) Keith Jackson, DT, Arkansas (From NE)

6(175) Xzavie Jackson, DE, Missouri

6(185) Cory Anderson, FB, Tennessee (From ATL)

7(211) Chris Davis, WR, Florida State

7(254) Kelvin Smith, LB, Syracuse (Comp)

+2008 2nd + 5th (From ATL)

If you guys are interested, I can go into the thought behind each pick and also the overall theory behind the draft as a whole..... not sure if anyone will be interested though.

So what would you guys think about having this kind of high quantity draft as opposed to a normal one?

Atlanta's Draft would be left at

1(1) Calvin Johnson
4(133) FS Michael Johnson ?
7(244) DE Noland Burchette ?

I could imagine the internet exploding before the commissioner could finish saying defensive back from LSU.

That is a very nice list of names. If we had that many picks I think we would have to trade up, trade picks for players and/or for picks next year unless Kiffin is trying to prove he can run a college team.

I think we would have to trade the excess linemen we have that don't fit the new system for conditional picks next year. :)

1/3rd the roster would be rookies. Not gonna happen. Anything more then 11 or 12 picks starts to become problematic. Not only the problem of fitting them onto the 53-man roster but then 4 years from now if they pan out it becomes a huge issue when you have a bunch of guys coming up for free agency in the same year.

1(8) LaRon Landry, FS, LSU (From ATL) Limee's right. The internet would crash under the weight of 20 million Raider fans all logging on at once to say "What the fuck?!?!?!?! Great player, and would pair amazingly with Huff. But Stu is our guy. I don't see him getting the boot any time soon.

2(33) Marshawn Lynch, RB, Cal If he falls to 33, I'll do backflips. I just can't see it happening, though. way too many teams that could use a RB for all 32 to pass on him.

2(39) Ryan Kalil, C, USC (From ATL via Houston) Great fit and makes a lot of sense.

2(44) Steve Smith, WR, USC (From ATL) Knows what Kiffin wants. Could be a decent slot receiver for us.

3(65) Doug Free, OT, Northern Illinois Fits the scheme well. Might eventually replace Sims.

3(75) Kevin Kolb, QB, Houston (From ATL) Not a fan of QBs from gimmicky offenses. I'd sooner take Troy Smith here or some pass rush help.

3(78) Marshall Yanda, OG, Iowa (From GB)

3(99) Josh Beekman, OG, Boston College (Comp) Four offensive linemen on Day 1? To say that this is overkill would be putting it lightly. Let's give the guys we have on the roster a chance to show whether or not they can play in this scheme before we drop early picks on their replacements.

4(100) Scott Chandler, TE, Iowa Intriguing player. Big guy, but he'll have to learn to block.

4(109) Rory Johnson, LB, Mississippi (From ATL) Risk vs Reward pick. Wouldn't be bad, but has some character concerns that will only be magnified under the Goodell regime.

4(112) David Clowney, WR, Virginia Tech (From GB) Minimal college production. Not really sure what to make of this guy. Would rather have Rhema McNight, maybe Chansi Stuckey. Not really sure we'd need to draft 2 WRs.

4(121) Adam Koets, OT, Oregon (From ATL) Another O-lineman. Come on, now.

5(138) Tarell Brown, CB, Texas Another guy who Goodell is going to have an eye on from Day 1. Good player, but the weed & weapons charges make him a risk, even in Rd5.

5(149) Walter Thomas, DT, NW Miss. C.C (From ATL) Terd 2? Hopefully.

5(165) Keith Jackson, DT, Arkansas (From NE) Just to piss his dad off, eh?

6(175) Xzavie Jackson, DE, Missouri Way too late in the draft to address DE, IMO.

6(185) Cory Anderson, FB, Tennessee (From ATL) Not really sure where he fits in.

7(211) Chris Davis, WR, Florida State A third WR? Oy vey.

7(254) Kelvin Smith, LB, Syracuse (Comp) Good camp fodder, I guess.

I don't see the Raiders ending up with 19 picks...Thats ridiculous.

If we made that trade,(Which we wouldnt) I'd fully assume a trade back in to the first round ala Fabs Washington...

Whoa... 19 draft picks... Sevendust would be proud :p

I expect in the real draft, we'll end up selecting 8 guys after the usual tradeups, with maybe 5 having a realistic shot at making the final roster...

I wasn't a fan of taking a safety in the top 10 last year and would be less of one this year... If we trade back to 8 and neither Quinn or Peterson are there, I would prefer to take either Alan Branch or Jamaal Anderson...

Lynch would be awesome and the rest of the day one picks are very good selections as far as players go, but having that many picks is a >< tad unrealistic...

I loved his mocks though. We always ended up coming out with Gallery, FItzgerald and Taylor...:D

100% agreed. We might trade Moss for a pick, but I assume we'll do the usualy trade up for a falling guy in rounds 3-5, maybe jump back into round 1...

Agreed. Okoye or Anderson. Im scared of Branch now though...

We're talking bout Al Davis here, so you never know...;)

i don't think I explained correctly, I was just putting a face on what a scenario would look like if we actually did trade down that far.... obviously the quantity of picks becomes excessive at positions and overall.

This is why I was afraid of even doing this, and why I labeled the thread "From Left Field", I was bored and wanted to fuck around.

Indeed you did, lol.

Sweet if it happened, but its about as 'Left Field' as it gets, brother. ;)

Dont take us too serious Knight, we're happy to have you here man.

I posted a 'strategy' to try and trade back into the first round and get AP and Quinn early in February, I got the same reaction, haha.

It involved being a Nasa scientist and around 32 trade scenarios, but it could happen...

Much of this scenario is centered around Kolb, and whether he is smart enough to make the transition to a pro-style offensive and keep his tools in play.

Package about 2/3rds of those picks up and move back up into the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds like it's religion and then I'm on board with it, sure. Well, as long as we don't pick Landry at 8, anyway. LOL. I'd MUCH rather have Okoye.

As Ricky Bobby would say, "with all due respect" this thread and others like it is precisely why I'm soooo glad that the draft is almost here.

I'm ready to thrust my cranium through my computer screen with all the speculation and incessant theories surrounding the draft.

You and me both.

Thank god for the NBA playoffs.

I haven't liked NBA for about 5 years now, but I should probably reconsider. Watching paint dry would be better than another, "if we trade Moss and get this pick, trade LaMont Jordan and get that pick, trade our 2009 3rd rounder for Buffalo's 2007 4th rounder and then trade our 1st pick to so & so for such & such"

Geez.

I know I'm being a real dickhead to those that are just contemplating different draft scenario's and I must say that I'm impressed by the thought process, but damn if hearing 4 months of this shit has completely worn me down.

I'll buy that and raise you one "lets tear player X apart to make player Z look like a better pick". Who would have thought having the #1 pick would be this mentally exhausting?

The ironic thing is that Al probably had his mind made up from day one.

As far as the NBA goes... there is still room on the Golden State bandwagon.

Common down. :D

The thread title should have tipped you off.
