from a week away

LOL.. happens to the best of us.

Knowing BQ's desire to be #1, I think they are using him for leverage to talk down JR in contract size (I predict a 5% raise over what Alex Smith got) and will go with him Saturday. If I had to guess, I would say that everyone is on board with JR and that Al has used the lame duck Lombardi to foster rumors of other choices to get JR's price down. I don't look forward, however, to facing BQ in the future. He already has a chip on his shoulder the size of a Nestle double-size chunk and it will only get bigger if Al turns him out like this for JR. I think they will both be good NFL QB's ala Leinert / Young vs. boom and bust like Manning / Leaf.

Well I'll just say I'm betting the Raiders don't trade the pick to anybody. By now the Raiders know who they want and are going to take him. If the guy is Quinn I think Al would take him at one. Al doesn't care what anybody thinks about some other player. Al will do what he thinks is the best thing for the Raiders. If Kiffin really has Al's ear and if Kiffin wants Quinn then I think that will be the pick. My guess is that if it's up to Al he'll take Johnson and never look back. The Davis/QB thing still holds true...I don't think Al wants to draft a QB and wait for him to come of age. Al always wants to win now. The vet QB has always worked for Al so why after 45 years would he decide to change the formula? Could happen but I give the "experts" a big 'f/ck you' --- that have NO CLUE what Al Davis will do.

John Clayton, go the f/ck back where you came from 'ya Rat Bastard. ;)

Bones stop hanging on to your CJ jihad, you're pissing up a rope here. There are no vet QB's to be had.

The contest is based on what one thinks Al Davis will do. That's my best guess -- Johnson.

For me I'd take Russell at one or trade down and draft Quinn and get more picks. I'm just afraid Al will take the guy with unbelievable speed and HOF potential. That's Johnson. At the top of the draft that says you plan on building around this guy. I'm not a believer of trying to build a team around a WR. So stop picking on me. :D

From the trying to confuse me department:

PFT is reporting that we are negotiating with Russell, CJ and Quinn AND that Lombardi "is being frozen out of the team's draft preparations. One source says that he is not participating at all in the team's contract discussions with potential No. 1 overall picks (more on that later), and another source says that he has been excluded from some draft meetings".

If Lombardi is being frozen out, who the hell is negotiating potential contracts?...

Creative Writing draft anxiety Part I

If Lombardi is being frozen out, who the hell is negotiating potential contracts?...

Atop the small wooden desk in his office, a lean, purposeful man frantically ties small pieces of thread to his fingers. His bright white jumpsuit casts dreadful images upon the panelled walls. Despite the careful articulation of his fingers, he pulls the strings from one finger to the next, tying, retying ths strings, muttering raspily to himself.
"CJ's off the map"
'Russell's a freak"
"Elway"
A knock at the door.
"Mr. Davis?"
A scuttling of string and desk drawers. Nylon upon mahogoney. A mumrured curse.
"Go away."
"Sir, we only have two minutes left"
"Lombardi, go fuck yourself. The phone will ring. You must be patient. Trust in the force."
"Sir, the draft is televised now. There are camera's filming me right now. I thought it would be okay. What should I do?"
Behind the door, a rough skid can be heard. A large box being dragged across the floor"
"Sir?"
A rough voice growls out from the void, "Take this to the Goddamn Commissioner..."

Some good stuff right here, and I think Brown's onto something about CJ not being a good fit for this place either (what's up Crow). :D

Tim Brown said:
"I think they should take Joe Thomas," Brown said, referring to the All-American left tackle from Wisconsin. "It's not the glamorous move, and it's not the splash everybody wants. But from a football point of view, I think it would make perfect sense for them to do that."

"I was on the sideline of the LSU game, and I saw the kid warming up," said Brown, referring to the Tigers' victory over Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. "I don't think he's Michael Vick, for sure, and I definitely don't think he's Vince Young....

"Yeah, I think [Russell] is a big guy, and he may be able to scramble once in a while, but that's not his forte. He's not a rhythm passer. He's a guy who likes to go back, pat the ball a couple of times and then get rid of the ball. In the NFL, and especially in the West Coast offense, you have to be a rhythm passer. You have to go back, and on your fifth step that ball has to be coming out."

People began connecting Russell-to-the-Raiders dots after he threw for 322 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 41-14 trouncing of Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.

Brown, for one, wasn't blown away by his performance.

"JaMarcus Russell went from wherever he was to No. 1 because of Notre Dame's defense," he said. "And nobody around here is going to tell me that Notre Dame's defense is a top-rated defense. If you look at what he did in that game, he went back, he ran around, and, 'Oh, this is Notre Dame, let me just throw a Hail Mary.' And his boys kept coming down with the passes. I don't know how a game like that would promote a guy so far up the ladder, but that's what happens. This is a hype league, and all this stuff is really about hype, so that doesn't surprise me.

"I do think he'll be a good player. I'm not saying he won't be. I just don't think he's ready the first year he walks into the league. I think Brady is more equipped to walk in and play the first day. And I think he will play faster than JaMarcus Russell, even if [Russell] comes to the Raiders."

Likewise, Brown says he doesn't think Johnson is an ideal fit for the Raiders, even though he called him "a guy who's going to be great no matter where he goes."

"But is Calvin Johnson a West Coast type of receiver? I don't really think that about him," he said. "I don't look at him as a pattern runner. I look at him as a Randy Moss-type guy. He's fast, big and can out-jump people. Can you conform him to a West Coast offense? Probably can. Will it happen overnight? Probably not."

I think Calvin Johnson will be a fine reciever however you use him? TIm doesnt want a future star WR in S&B messing with his legacy. Calvin is huge and has great hands how isnt that perfect for the WCO? He made all sorts of short catches at GT. Ball cant even throw a football that far. This guy can do anything you want him to do. With some good coaching and a year or two exp. he is gonna be one of the best. I dont think we can also deem the Kiffin offense the WCO yet. It hasnt even been shown? It has been described as a hybrid. You know Al wants to go deep still?

I have heard that Cable wants Thomas and Ryan is lobbying for Adams, while So Cal and BigTron still hope we pick Peterson.

It is all plausible, but nobody really knows and I am sure it must be killing them as much as it is us.

If Kiffin does want Quinn then I agree that is the direction we should go. Has he got the gift of the gab to convince Al to pass on 2 physical freaks?

I would consider AP a physical freak too. 6'2 wiht a 4.3 40 and he runs over AND around people. I guess all these guys are freaks in there own. I think the talent and athletisicm of CJ, AP and JR is next level. I am going into this draft with an open mind. I can be easily pleased with alot of combo's of the first two picks.

Ap and D.Jarrett would be real nice.

I am with you on that one. Keep the Peterson jihad alive mate, at least for a couple more days.

Im too far gone to turn back now! If he busts i will happily eat my foot. Id put that stamp on AP, Cj and Landry. These are my 3 cant miss players.
