Joe Namath?

Just the throwing motion.

I've only seen highlights and clips of Namath, like on "America's Game" and such, but just trying to think of who Russell's setup and throwing motion reminds of, for some reason Namath came to my mind.

Of course Russell's a lot heftier but Namath looked bigger than he was listed at. And when he'd get his feet and have protection, (when he was young and nimble and in his prime) just a gorgeous over-the-top arc of a delivery.

And plus, two SEC-bred QBs with a fuck-whover's-over-there-I-can-get-it-in-there kind of never-fading confidence about themselves.

Am I crazy? I asked my dad and he said he could see it somewhat, at least just in the delivery.

Terrible. If he hadn't somehow made that guarantee hold up in Super Bowl III nobody would remember him.

He was signed to the largest bonus ever to that point coming out of Alabama -- $400,000 :eek: That made big news too. But on the field Namath wasn't all that great for the most part. If Namath is in the HOF I don't see why Ken Stable isn't. But then Swan is in and Cliff Branch isn't. Compare their stats too.

Bottom line is if we're compaing Russell to Namath we're in deep trouble. But then maybe we're just comparing his throwing motion.
 
Did Russell get drunk and try to kiss the sideline reporter? My god...I sure am glad they fired Eric Dickerson.

Bro... different era... different system... comparing stats between eras and systems is meaningless. It isn't a coincidence that Montana was the 1st QB to start putting up triple digit QB ratings because he was the 1st QB to play in the WCO... By comparison, in Namath's time pass interference wasn't even enforced.
 
He doesn't have the same quick dropback from center, but the way he slides and the way he releases the ball kind of reminds me of Dan Fouts... Hopefully he doesn't take 4 or 5 years to put it together the way Foutsy did...
 
Actually he looks like what he looked like in college to me from a throwing standpoint. Like Elway on steroids. :D

Totally agree. Bad habits he developed.

His charge this off season is working on his mechanics. The mofo better be in every off season program, mini camp, OTA's and anything else. Stay put in Oaktown boy...no Louisiana home cookin' for you! :nono:

BS. He got sall his fame from Super Bowl III. Other than that he was pretty ordinary on the field.

The wife and I were watching the game yesterday and on that 3rd quarter TD to Porter we both turned to each other and said, "wow, that looked like a Favre throw!"

Of course, Jerry Mac kipes my shit this morning...
 
There were a couple throws worth mentioning. The laser to Porter for the TD. Was it a jump pass on a rollout to Curry that got downfield in a hurry, I literally said "WOW!" while watching it, and I rarely do that.

All that jumping around and not setting his feet is his lack of confidence in the pocket. Upgrading the pass protection will stop some of it. Better knowing where his receivers are will get rid of more. And more reps will get rid of some more.

I'm looking forward to what a full off-season program will do for him.

... and Marcus Allen got all his fame from one Super Bowl year as well. So maybe he's as over-rated as Marcus is......
 
He's got quick moves for a big dude.. He's got cat like instincts on avoiding sacks.. of course have turnstile Sims didnt help much
