Raiders Sign S Eric Frampton

July 20, 2007

Rookie safety Eric Frampton. has been signed to a contract , The Oakland Raiders announced today. The Washington State product was the Raiders second pick in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Frampton signed his contract in the Hall of Fame room at the Silver and Black’s Alameda, Calif., facility.

Frampton was an All-Conference (Pac-10) selection in 2006 at WSU, where he led the team in tackles with 100, a team-high five interceptions, and two forced fumbles. For his efforts, the 5’11”, 205-pound safety was named the team’s defensive MVP of 2006.

“It feels good for everything to be solidified and for me to be able to focus on what I need to do,” said Frampton. “This is a start. It’s definitely a milestone accomplished along the way. I’m grateful [the contract] is all done. I think in OTAs and Mini-Camp I was preparing myself to be a Raider. This is another milestone on my way to accomplishing my goals. Starting in college, with setting goals and focusing on them, to reach those goals is truly a blessing.”

Frampton will report to his first NFL Training Camp on July 26th at the Raiders Napa Valley Training Complex. His first opportunity to suit up in front of the Raider Nation is the Raiders 2007 Preseason opener on Saturday, August 11, against the Arizona Cardinals at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland.

Passion and Devotion

By Ravi Savitala

Safety Eric Frampton. was prepared to move anywhere when his name was announced on Draft day – anywhere but home. The San Jose-native wasn’t prepared for the good fortune of being able to come home to play for the Raiders. “It’s everything that I didn’t expect. Draft day I was ready to pack up and go anywhere else but here. But it’s a blessing to be here,” Frampton said. He’s happy to be home.

The fifth round selection from Washington State grew up in a Raider household. His father, Arnold, loves the Raiders. Frampton played locally at Oak Grove High School in San Jose. He joins TE Courtney Anderson., LBs Kirk Morrison. and Sam Williams., and C Jeremy Newberry. as athletes who went to high school in the Bay Area and now play for the Raiders.

As a local product, Frampton knows he has a responsibility to the kids in the San Jose area. He wants them to know their dreams are possible if they pursue them passionately and with devotion.

“Being local to this area and having so many friends and family, even in my neighborhood with all the kids, there’s a ton of things that I want to do for San Jose as a community,” conveyed Frampton. “Especially being local, I feel like I can be very influential for high school kids, show them there’s a right way to grow up. Go to college. Take care of school first and foremost.”

Frampton is seven classes short of his degree in Business Administration (Entrepreneurship) from WSU. He plans to complete the classes during the spring, when football season is over. Earning a college degree has always been one of his life goals. Playing football in the NFL is another.

Frampton is also religious. His faith has helped him on the field as well. “When I step on the field, it’s passion and devotion to the game,” he explained. “I play defense. I have a responsibility – a job at safety to make big plays, to come up and make tackles. That’s what I do. When I get on the field, I do that with great passion and devotion. That’s my mindset 110 percent.”

For now, Frampton has devoted his time to making the Raiders 53-man roster. He knows his message to kids will be stronger once he establishes himself as a member of The Oakland Raiders. Have faith, he will be out in the community speaking with youngsters about their future, encouraging them to follow their dreams the same way he did – with passion and devotion.
