My theory this year? If we are out of the Calvin Johnson/Adrian Peterson range I think we go with the BAW (Best Available Wolverine) approach...

Jake Long or Alan Branch would look good in the silver and black... and both would fit a big need.

As long as it's offense, I don't care.

Hard to tell where we'll end up at this point though, there are 12 teams with two-or-fewer wins. Amazing.

I think Long is going to be the best RT in the league and he could play LT if need be...

Branch is the best DT on the team with the best front 4 in the league... Immediately we have our Sapp replacement...

Personally, I like Brady Quinn. A lot.

We won't draft him though, so the point is moot.

On my radar right now: Adrian Peterson, Gaines Adams, Alan Branch, or Calvin Johnson (This would be sweet, but we would neet top 3, IMO)

If we win 5-7 games and end up in the 7-12 area, I like Marshawn Lynch, Moses, Adam Carriker, Okam or Posluzny (Wouldnt our LB corps be sick?)

Anyone else think it's possible that Lynch could overtake Peterson by draft time?

It's a possibility since Lynch is still running. But Peterson is too big a talent to slip too far. Of course Lynch could still take himself out of the running with his running. He has to prove he's worth being taken ahead of Peterson for Peterson to fall.

Well, seeing as how the Raiders are going to wind up 6-10 or something, I think we're looking at something like this:

1. Arizona
2. Detroit
3. Miami
4. San Francisco
5. Houston
6. Buffalo
7. Cleveland
8. Tennessee
9. Oakland

So we really need to find 9 guys we like. Here's what I think will be gone:

1. Arizona -- Joe Thomas
2. Detroit -- Brady Quinn
3. Miami -- Calvin Johnson
4. San Francisco -- Adrian Peterson
5. Houston -- Marshawn Lynch
6. Buffalo -- Brian Brohm
7. Cleveland -- Leon Hall
8. Tennessee -- Levi Brown
9. Oakland --

Get ready for it, because it's coming. :(

Ted Ginn Jr.

You think San Fran would take a RB with the success that Gore is having? I mean, he's got something like 650 yards, which appears to be right up in the top area, so taking a RB that high would seem like not only a slap in the face to him, but redundant to a team that needs a lot more holes filled, especially along their trenches.

Gore has two reconstructed knees.

Adding Peterson would be no different for the 49ers than adding Reggie Bush was for the Saints.

It's just that Peterson would become Deuce, and Gore would become Bush.

I think the 6-10 is pretty realsitic

Perhaps we luck out and end up tying with 4 other teams at 6-10 and get the higher pick

I've seen Lynch tagged to the Jets at around 11 or 12 in most mocks I've seen

Jack, in your scenario we certainly miss out on some blue chip prospects. Hopefully a good one will slip.

Even so there is still Gaines Adams, Quentin Moses, Alan Branch, Jake Long, Frank Okam, Dwayne Jarret, Sydney Rice etc. before we get to Ted Ginn Jr..

Having said that, Ted Jr. is very very fast.

Hers how the draft would be if it ended today

Gotcha. Didn't know about his knees. I'm pretty lost as far keeping up with the news this year, since I'm constantly going on limited time with everything in my life right now. Plus, my kids don't let me spend much time on the computer while they're awake, which is why I end up doing homework until 2-3 every morning.

SF is supposedly working on a contract extension for Gore...

Put me firmly in the Alan Branch/Gaines Adams camp right now... As opposed to DT's and pass rush DE's, the WR spot is pretty easy to fill in free agency... Adrian Peterson wouldn't hurt my feelings any...

I'd prefer Levi Brown to Joe Thomas because Brown can play RT and Thomas is similar to Gallery... I gotta think that knee may drop Thomas a bit...

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! That said, he's more of a route runner than our current very very fast guy.

Not when we have the fleet footed Alvis Whitted. I think it would be too much to ask for us to pick up another defensive player three years running, and we drafted three OL last year, money has to be on a fleet footed receiver or RB. Please don't be a receiver.

I wouldn't bitch at all if we picked up Calvin Johnson. Cat is CRAZY good. Plus, he'll cost a shitload less than Moss/Porter.. which means more money to spend on FA O-linemen.

Unless Petersen and/or Lynch are "franchise RB's" in the mold of LaDanian Tomlinson, I'd rather finish the job on defense.

Sounds like we're ALL on the "spend FA dollars on O-lineman" bandwagon.

Peterson is... I'm somewhat sold on Lynch but not as much as I am on Peterson.
