Ok, so I'm watching America's Game(that's an hour long program on each Superbowl for those of you who don't have the NFL Network... Hboy ) on the 1987 Redskins, and Williams says in training camp Gibbs told him he traded him to the Raiders, and come back in the afternoon and he'll give him more details. Williams said he was really excited becasue he wanted to start(Shroeder was starting), and the idea of reclamation with the Raiders fit his career. Anyhow, he came back later and Gibbs said he had changed his mind because he thought Williams would come through for him at some point in the season.

I guess I do remember hearing rumors about Williams back then... I spose the question is would Williams have starred for the Raiders?

I didn't really follow him at Tampa. I couldn't imagine he would have cost much in trade since the Redskins just signed him when the USFL folded.

Sucks that the Redskins pulled the ol' bait-and-switch on us fleecing us of a stud left tackle for that stiff Shroeder a year later

What do you all think?

I also remember tha Raiders flirtation with Williams and was hopeful a deal would happen. I was bummed that it didn't. But I do remember how horrible Schroeder was, what with dropping the ball when NOBODY was within miles of him and the constant over throws, etc, etc. What many of us fail to remember is that Jim Lachey was a great left tackle that probably helped ol' Jay look better than he actually was! What ever happened to ol' Lachey?

Williams would have been a lot better for us than ol' Jay "my arm is a howitzer but I'm just as happy throwing it deep to the other team" Schroeder.

I don't remember this at all... Bummer...

Williams wasn't the greatest QB but at the least trading for him probably would have prevented us from trading Lachey a year later...
