Honestly feel you have seen enough of Andrew Walter to make an accurate evaluation of the guy to want or expect another QB?...All things considered?

I voted no.

However, I've seen enough of him to say I wouldn't pass up a franchise QB with the #1 overall because of him.

I might pass one up because I want CJ, but not because I'm comfortable with Walter.

I would definitely address the QB spot this offseason with someone who has either a lot more upside or is a lot more proven.

Here'a a look at all starting Qb's first significant action in the NFL. Few have had situations worse than Walter, but not many.

I voted no, and you know what? I feel completely confident in whatever coach Kiff's evaluation is of young offensive talent.

Let him be our guide.

I can't properly evaluate any of what happened on offense last season. The offensive line and the QB's were thrown in the deep end and told to sink or swim. If any of you were taught to swim that way, how well did you do? What's odd is that Walter was asked every week what pass plays he felt most comfortable running, and until Shoop took over those plays were the minority of the plays called. That doesn't sound like helping the QB succeed, it sounds more like breaking him in. Bad approach = bad results.

Agree 100%

I think lack of an outlet (TEs couldnt catch, Moss was playing half speed, alvis freaking whitted was the other starting WR, jordan/fargas werent catching much), little time from the OL and horrible playcalling on a guy getting his first few starts can make anyone look horrible. Give the guy an OL and some time working with Curry, Porter, and Moss along with a TE that can catch and we'll see an entirely different andrew walter.

We hope so. But the truth is, we just can't know until we see it in action. The obvious rub being that if we don't draft a QB and Walter fizzles and we aren't at the top of the draft again any time soon (but not drafting #32, either) .. then we'll always wonder if we shouldn't have maybe picked up ole J-Russ or Quinn.

That being said, I'm definately leaning towards the Calvin Johnson side of the fence right now. I'm very impressed with his workout numbers (same goes for AP). Draft CJ, hope Lynch drops with his iffy 40 time and move back into the low first to grab him too? Man, that'd be a MONSTER draft, regardless (irregardless?) of whoever else we pick up.

the only reason i dont see lynch dropping too far from 20 is the fact that another back isnt stepping up and the FA market is kinda light for feature backs. but right now if he take a buchanonesque drop into say that 25 - 30 range then i can see us making a move for him.

Do you feel you have seen enough of Walter to consider him inadequate?
No is my answer. but I have some explanation to that....

No, we haven't seen enough but he also hasn't shown me anything to keep me from drafting a guy at number one with more potential.
It makes me sick that we passed on Leinhart last year.
Look I LIKED WALTER and wanted his to succeed last year, but he didn't show me enough patience and just never looked like he had IT.

I don't care if we don't draft a QB but we better get someone to compete with him in FA or via Trade.....

No way of knowing at this point. Last season was such a cluster fuck nothing can be properly evaluated.

As I've mentioned many times the only thing that disappoints me is that through it all you'd think Walter would have made a few plays some how that would have made you sit up straight in your chair. Didn't happen when I was watching.

Clearly you can't throw this guy onto the scrap heap based on what happened last season but I wouldn't pass on Brady Quinn just because AW is on the squad.

Bones! You didn't think that 3rd and 20 something scramble and rocket to Moss (who promptly dropped it at the sidelines) against Seattle wasn't a potential highlight reel play? Walter threw about a dozen of those last year. He bought time and then made a great throw that was dropped. He also held onto the ball too long and got hammered. Then when Shoop came in, he looked good and bad making quick decisions.

Everything I saw last year said he has all the tools, but plenty of players have had the tools. The question is putting them together. Last year was an advantage for Walter only from the aspect of giving him time to learn the speed of the game. Hopefully, we've got an offense we'll keep around for more than a season so he (and the guys we bring in) can learn and use it.

That's the thing, Rupert. Maybe Walter WOULD have made some plays had his guys actually caught the ball for him.

I'm not ready to throw him under the bus just yet. Kiffen has seen enough of him in the PAC 10 to warrant starting consideration but I want another decent QB in here whether through draft or FA. I wouldn't be overly upset if we passed on either Quinn or Russell and brought Carr in here. Then we can trade down a few notches, draft Peterson and shore up the OL and TE positions.

If we want Peterson, I think we've got to take him No. 1 or 2 at the latest. Don't think he makes it past Cleveland.

For that matter, I'm not sure he'd make it past Detroit.

You can't really say what guys go were because free agency and trades can really alter the needs. Everybody had the Saints drafting a QB last year until they signed Brees. Who knows where McGahee, Michael Turner and Thomas Jones wind up.

Not fair to judge him on what I have seen so far. I was disappointed that the team didn't seem to react positively when he replaced Brooks. Whatever happens he will be on the roster next year and we need to find at least one more QB capable of starting.

And there you have it. Exactly what I was getting at when I previously said I've seen some flashes from Walter last year that didn't necessarily show up on the stat sheet. We definately need some veteran competition going into this next year, but I wouldn't throw myself off a bridge in the least if Walter winds up being our starter, assuming we do something about the O-line, that is.

Browns want Russell, Raiders can trade down with the Browns and take him there if they want

Man, overwhelming vote here.

Which is interesting, because immediately after the season, I thought most of Raider Nation was ready to chuck him.

Agree with RHC, way too soon to pass judgement, but didn't show enough to preclude the team from going after Russell or Quinn.
