Now that Green's a Dolphin, I'd like to see the Raiders make a run at Culpepper as soon as he's released. Just want to see if anybody else wants in on this jihad. Figure it can't get any worse than the Adrian Peterson train wreck...

- Culpepper bring some much needed vet leadership to the QB position... something this offense has not had since Gannon retired.

- Culpepper might be the ideal kind of mentor for Russell in both the short and long term.

- It's still June, so I think Culpepper would have more than enough time to learn the offense (and continue to get healthy).

- Whether he ends up starting or not, at the very least he will give us some much needed depth at the QB position. Sorry, but going into next season with McCown and Walter as our most experienced QBs is laughable.

- I also think he has the right kind of personality to not steal Kiffin's thunder... like an over-hyped vet like Favre would do (not implying that the Raiders have any interest in Favre).

- As for Culpepper, this could be a great situation for him... We give him a very realistic shot at starting this year, and perhaps keeping the job for a good 2-3 years. I would have no problem clipboarding Russell for 2 seasons if it meant he were being groomed under Culpepper.

- My only concern is whether he's really suited for the WCO... but considering all the intagibles he brings to the table, I'd like to see the Raiders roll the dice on him.

Culpepper has never demonstrated any leadership skills, so he's useless in that regard.

Pep, without Moss, is a god awful QB. What kind of mentoring could he be capable of that McCown isn't?

If McCown and Walter is laughable, then Culpepper would be a gut buster.

What intangibles does Culp bring to the table? The innate ability to fumble and throw picks at the most inopportune times? We just cut Aaron Brooks. No point at all in bringing in an inferior version.

Unless we're moving him to TE or Sam Backer, I really don't see any use for the guy. He'd be 4th on the depth chart at best.

I like Culpepper but there is no way he would beat out McCown right now. Culpeppers head is also messed up from all this and we don't need a project problem at QB right now. We have one QB project his name is "the Chosen One"
Let McCown start and take some licks and then Roll Russell out there later this year or next. Maybe Culpepper can sign with the Pat's I think they need a Back up?

I have to agree with Crow and Jatfly on this one.

It's not like he was playing all that well in the season before he shredded his knee. Plus I don't think he is suited for the WCO. His best years came with him having a stellar RB (Robert Smith), a really good line and Moss to help him out.

With our line being what it is, and if it plays like it did last year all he would do is curl up in the fetal position and long for his happy place.

I think Pepper is done.

I could see us bringing him in to compete, but I doubt he has much left.

I don't think Culpepper brings any redeemable quality to the table. I don't know what you've been watching/reading SoCal, but Culpepper has the leadership skills of Terrell Owens with 1/2 the talent. He made his name playing a style of backyard pick-up football by heaving the rock to Randy Moss after he ran his 33rd 9-route of the game. Oakland is actually asking for their QB to fit an offense now. Unless it's drawn in the dirt and he's surrounded by superior physical talent, Culpepper has proven to be useless the last 2 1/2 years.

I'm not saying Moss was the only reason Culpepper succeeded, he had physical talent. But Moss allowed Culpepper to get away with so much more than he can now that he never really developed as a complete QB. Now that he's been in the league for 8 years, he's never going to develop IMO. He struggles in his reads and tries to rely on his arm strength too much.

Then there's the injury issue. He's still not fully recovered from shredding the 3 major ligaments in his knee. Nobody outside of Miami has an idea of what his long-term prognosis is. That knee injury is a potential career ender. Even if he comes back, I seriously doubt he'll be the same QB physically or mentally after that kind of injury.

I wouldn't touch Culpepper with a 10-ft pole. Hell, I think the best thing that could happen is Herm Edwards getting a stiffy for a QB who hasn't seen a decent season in over 3 years, talk him up in the national media, then watch him put the final nail in KC's coffin for the next 3-5 years.

I dont think Cullpepper is done. But Any Raider jihads arent happening. He'll land a job in a much more desirable to him scenario somewhere else. He still completes 60 percent and better of his completions and is still mobile enough to move around the pocket and roll out. In the right offense with the right type of WR's(big strong WR's), I think he'll still torch some people. But he's not coming to oakland and odds are we dont want him now.

Also I dont know what to expect from him in a WCO.

I woudn't want him as a Chief honestly. He's still mobile enough to get out of the pocket(saves their O-Line) and I think the KC offense is simple enough for Culpepper to find his way through it fairly easy. Also I think for a jump ball guy like Tony G. amd their new big WR Bowe, c-Pepper is a great match.

We DO NOT want anything to do with D. Culpepper. We have many better places to put our remaining cap space (like with Burgess and Nnamdi). We've got 5 QB's on the roster now, and while DC would be pushed to the top of the list, I'm not sure he'd be any better than McCown in 2007. 2008 belongs to JR.

Put me in the no Culpepper column.

I don't see this guy helping us at all. What, we gonna keep four QB's? I don't think so. In fact I think Culpepper is done.

Plus, SoCal, your new avatar sucks. I barely recognized you.

I don't want any part a Culpepper.

Fuck that!

I don't want him tainting our prized rookie in any way.

And i have never, never seen Culpepper remotely associated with a word like "intangibles"

I was all for bring Pepper in last year, but it's clear from watching him last season that his knee is scrambled worse than I believed... That he still has problems with it points to it being likely he'll never be that scrambling powerful downfield runner he was early in his career...

JaMarcus is clearly the future, maybe even the immediate future... McCown clearly understands that and accepts that his role here will be that of a shortterm bridge to Russell... From what we've seen/heard from Culpepper the past few years, I don't know if he'd have the same level of acceptance... McCown may not have the same experience of Pep, but I think he's much better for team chemistry and the development of both JaMarcus and our rookie head coach...

I don't think there will be as much demand for Pep as he may believe there will be... Outside of being a replacement for Vick should Vick be suspended, his best bet may be staying in Miami and fighting it out with Green...

Even if we wanted Culpepper, I sincerely doubt that he'd be interested in being JaMarcus' caddy for a year... and, really, that's all he'd be.

I actually think our QB situation is darn near perfect.

McCown is a guy that accepts his role, and is still young and talented enough to maybe be worth keeping around after JaMarc takes over... a guy that potentially could come off the bench in a pinch and win games for us for a good long while.

Walter is a decent guy to have on the end of the bench... a developmental player with talent and some starting experience.

The only way I could imagine it being better is if our current starter was a proven boyscout and QB developer like Kitna, but who's to say McCown isn't that either?

Come on fellas, can't you read between the lines? This, as usual, is more about the Raiders NOT drafting Adrian Petersen.

Prior to the McCown acquistion, I was also touting Culpepper, but now? What's the point? Unless this team is going to unload Walter, I don't see any room for him anyway.

Unless Walter is hurt more then they think,

Missing was Andrew Walter, the third-year quarterback who led the Raiders to their only two wins last year. Kiffin said Walter underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Monday and is expected to be out 4-6 weeks.
No Culpepper!

Pep has gone on record after Green was signed saying that he doesn't want to leave Miami. Personally, I agree with the consensus that he's pretty much done and being a Florida boy and all, probably content picking up a nice fat check playing back up to Trent.

Maybe I'm completely missing the boat on this one (I haven't followed Culpepper much since Moss left the Vikes)... but I sure was under the impression that he had some pretty good leadership skills. Obviously, I'm clearly in the minority on this one...

I need to dig up that old KFFL avatar... still is my favorite.

Per PFT

SEVERAL TEAMS NOT KEEN ON 'PEPPER

Though the identity of the teams interested in quarterback Daunte Culpepper isn't known, Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that several squads have indicated that they aren't interested in acquiring his services.

The Bears, Vikings, Falcons, Giants, and Raiders are in the "no, thanks" club.

NFL personnel execs have speculated that the Jaguars, Pats, Rams, and Lions could be interested.
Thank Lord Al for small favors.
