Among the things that will take time to understand with this is the results that are not death. Some people have pretty severe after effects including organ damage. I haven't seen data about how many. Deaths are a a pretty clear measure, but the impact doesn't stop there, or the cost. Someone injured enough by this could lose wages for a decade and require hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical and supportive care. I've seen a number of stories like this, but all are anecdotal. This likely won't be known for a long time.

As they say in the insurance biz this virus is going to have long tail.

The other really interesting part of things is the liability.

For years our lawyers have us behaving in the most ridiculous ways to avoid a 1/1000 chance at at suit probably worth $100K tops. These guys should be insisting everybody is wrapped in a plastic bubble over this, and so far not a peep. Individual cases may be hard to prove, but something like those meat packers is damn convincing evidence, way more that talcum powder.

I expect that in many places, laws will be passed to remove the right of a person to sue over this. I view this as a greater infringement on my rights than not allowing me onto a beach.

I appreciate this place and @CrossBones for providing the forum. I’ve stayed out of the Carr thread for months and feel like I’ve had a more positive experience for it. All Covid discussions feel like they turn political even when they aren’t intended to, I’m just going to refrain from those too. I’m not changing anyone’s mind about it, everyone has their own set of facts these days and that’s the weird world we live in now. So I’d suggest a Covid thread is still just a bomb waiting to go off, but it won’t be set off by me, I’m out on that.

Yep. Everyone has to decide what they think about what's going on on their own hopefully.

Shit got real for me recently because one of my first cousins is fighting for her life with it now, so it's went from abstract to I'm watching this real time play out, and politics on either side aren't going to help her either way.

I hope everything works out for your cousin man.

Yeah, but it's not looking good. Perfectly previously healthy 51 year old woman who I saw at our aunt's funeral a couple of months back. She is in there by herself, and they had to put her on a ventilator yesterday. Like this is somebody who used to be with my big sister all growing up and used to babysit me. Shit's fucked up when it's somebody you know and not just on Facebook or something like that.

Don't know you, but that sucks for anyone to have concern about losing a family member.

Senate speeches advocating to take away some ability to sue for virus negligence. This is a first amendment right. But it far predates that in western civilization. It is arguably the basis of Western civilization that everyone has the right to have wrongs against them addressed by the courts. The argument for taking away some right to sue is that rights must be limited to make society function for the greater good. I predict that both sides of the political spectrum will strongly take positions in fundamental disagreement with their positions on similar restrictions of other rights for the greater good.

People are full of shit.

Still hearing that "anybody who wants to be tested can".

I don't know about the areas you folks live in but here in the Seattle area that just isn't true.

I've talked to a couple of clinics who are certified to test for Covid-19 and been told unless you have symptoms the answer is no. This goes for the swab test as well as the antibody test. With the antibody test they say if you have symptoms you can't get the test. Something about if you think you may have had symptoms qa while ago and can get a doctor to refer you MAYBE yo9u can get the anti body test. Other than that NO.

You should not get an antibody test if you’re currently experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, such as a fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of smell or taste. However, you may qualify for an antibody test if you had a confirmed case of the disease and have since recovered, were previously experiencing symptoms but never got tested, or were exposed to COVID-19 more than 14 days ago. Check your individual insurance plan to see if you’re covered for this type of test.

This to me makes no sense. There are more people walking around asymptonmatic than those that have it and we don't know who those people are.

i wish they would stop saying anybody who wants to be tested can get a test. Total bullshit.

It has always been that anybody who wants to be tested and has plenty of money and is well connected can get tested.

Just listened to the Washington Governor. What an idiot.

No idea what the plan is because it seemed clear he didn’t know.
