KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Chiefs have fired offensive coordinator Mike Solari and three other assistant coaches following a dismal 4-12 season.

Solari, offensive line coach John Matsko, receivers coach Charlie Joiner and running backs coach James Saxon were let go Tuesday after a season in which the Chiefs were among the worst offensive teams in the NFL.

Solari, Saxon and Joiner had been on the staff of previous coach Dick Vermeil. Tight ends coach Jon Embree and assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach Dick Curl were the only offensive assistants who were retained.

Kansas City scored just 226 points this season, worst for a 16-game season in their history, and averaged 276.8 yards in total offense, second-worst in the NFL behind San Francisco.

The Chiefs also managed just 1,248 yards rushing, their worst total in a non-strike year, and allowed 55 sacks, second in team history.

Solari joined the Chiefs as the offensive line coach in 1997, a job he held under three coaches until new coach Herm Edwards promoted him to offensive coordinator in 2006.

Joiner, a Hall of Fame receiver, and Saxon, a former Chiefs player, joined the team in 2001 under Vermeil. Saxon was the offensive line coach for St. Louis from 1999-2005 before moving across Missouri to join Edwards in 2006.

DETROIT (AP) -- The Detroit Lions reportedly fired Mike Martz on Wednesday, ending his fractious two years as the team's offensive coordinator.

Martz will be replaced by Jim Colletto, who will retain his position as offensive line coach while calling plays. Receivers coach Kippy Brown will serve as co-coordinator, the Detroit Free Press, Booth Newspapers and ESPN.com reported.

A message seeking comment was left Wednesday with Martz's agent, Bob LaMonte. The Lions had no comment on the reports, a team spokesman said.

Martz confirmed his firing to the Free Press.

"We fell short of what we wanted to do offensively, and I regret that," he told the newspaper.

The Lions were 7-9 this season after a 6-2 start.

During two losing seasons in Detroit, Martz was unable to replicate the success he had during the "Greatest Show on Turf" years in St. Louis.

Martz coached the Rams from 2000-2005, including a Super Bowl loss in 2001. He used the same offense in Detroit, but it didn't translate into many wins for the Lions and head coach Rod Marinelli.

The Rams fired Martz on Jan. 2, 2006, the day after St. Louis finished 6-10. He sat out the last 11 games recovering from endocarditis, a bacterial infection of a heart valve.

Martz led St. Louis to the playoffs in four of his five full seasons, and helped the franchise win the 2000 Super Bowl as offensive coordinator. The Rams went 51-29 in the regular season and 54-33 overall during his five full seasons as head coach.

His first NFL job was with the Los Angeles Rams as an offensive assistant in 1992-93, then was quarterbacks coach in 1994. He was wide receivers coach in 1995-96 after the franchise moved to St. Louis, and was quarterbacks coach for the Washington Redskins in 1997-98.

Mike Nolan fired Jim Hostler, whose unit finished last in the NFL with 219 points, but announced no additional changes to his coaching staff.

Owner John York promoted top personnel executive Scot McCloughan to general manager, giving him a raise and final say on personnel issues. But other than the new title for McCloughan, the 49ers changed almost nothing significant in their power structure at the close of their franchise-record fifth straight losing season.
 
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- Dallas Cowboys executive Jeff Ireland is rejoining Bill Parcells as general manager of the Miami Dolphins.

Parcells hired Ireland on Wednesday to replace Randy Mueller, who was fired Monday after three seasons with Miami.

Parcells, who spent four seasons as Cowboys head coach, joined the Dolphins two weeks ago as executive vice president of football operations.

Still to be decided is the fate of Cam Cameron, whose job is in jeopardy after going 1-15 in his first season as an NFL head coach.

Ireland spent the past three years as the Cowboys' vice president of college and pro scouting, and he helped build the team that won the NFC East this season. Before that, he was an NFL scout for 11 years.

He has been around football since childhood, spending summers as a ball boy during training camp for the Chicago Bears. His grandfather, former Philadelphia Eagles player Jim Parmer, scouted for the Bears.

Ireland's stepfather is E.J. Holub, a former linebacker with the Kansas City Chiefs.

BENGALS FIRE BRESNAHAN

A league source tells us that the Bengals have fired defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan.

Bresnahan spent three years in the position. His predecessor, Leslie Frazier, was fired after the 2004 season.

It's unknown whether the decision to fire Bresnahan was made by head coach Marvin Lewis, or by upper management.

On Monday, Lewis defended his staff. "I'm very pleased with what our coaches have done this year," Lewis said. "They've gone through some trying times with new players and injuries. It's very difficult each and every week to look at a different group of guys, moving guys from position to position. I thought they handled that very well."

Solari is going to make some team really happy now that he'll be going back to OL coach.
 
Sources tell the Baltimore Sun that the Ravens are gearing up to make a run at Bill Cowher to succeed Brian Billick as head coach.

Ravens officials could reportedly meet with Cowher by as soon as this weekend. Cowher, currently an analyst for CBS, has said he doesn't plan to return to coaching before 2009, but the idea of taking over a talented, veteran team could be intriguing. Cowher also knows the AFC North quite well. Jan. 2 - 7:11 pm et

That guy always looked like an idiot while on the sideline. Who called him the mouth breather? That is an apt description.

Anyone remember when he passed on being interviewed. He would have rather been the OC in Detriot and now look what that got him.

Martz passes on Raiders job

Just two days after interviewing in Oakland for the Raiders’ head-coaching job, Mike Martz is pulling his name out of consideration.

According to sources close to Martz, he enjoyed his interview session with Raiders owner Al Davis, and said working for Davis would have been a blast. But he said the situation in Oakland just didn’t feel right, so Martz no longer is a candidate.

Since Oakland is the last of 10 NFL teams to name a new head coach this offseason, Martz’s withdrawal on Saturday evening means he will not be a head coach in the NFL next season. Martz had previously interviewed for the New Orleans job, but that position went to Sean Payton.

Martz could still find work in the league next year, however, because Detroit is believed to be interested in talking to him about being offensive coordinator for the Lions.

Following up on that I can only hope Cam Cameron gets whacked in Miami this week. I really dislike that guy. Reminds me of Art Shell on the sidelines. Happily I have not seen one of his press conferences. I'm sure that is like watching paint dry. And to think he turned down an interview with the Raiders. Bad Karma I guess. Fuck you Cam! :D

ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Miami Dolphins have fired head coach Cam Cameron.

The firing comes a day after new front-office boss Bill Parcells hired Jeff Ireland as general manager. Parcells and Ireland will now apparently work together to find a replacement.

Cameron had just one year as an NFL head coach, meaning his career record is 1-15. Cameron will likely become a candidate to become offensive coordinator in several places.

As the story goes, Al fell asleep (as old people sometimes do) during the interview. I guess Martz didn't feel comfortable with that sort of boss.

In hindsight, maybe he would have been better off, eh?
 
Chiefs | Edwards describes offense he would like to see

Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Chiefs, reports Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herman Edwards described the offense he would like to see in 2008. He may include some features of the West Coast offense, but with some changes. "I want the ability to play fast-break offense. Some weeks, that's going to be the best way for us to win. You have to be able to take advantage of people's weaknesses. If you're playing a team that isn't very good when they get into their nickel defense, you might have to throw the ball 40 times if that's the best way for us to win the game. But you have to have an offense that has the ability to do that," Edwards said.



Translation" Fuck I don't know I just want to be like the Patriots."


In other news, the entire Dolphins Coaching staff has been shown the door including Def Coordinator Dom Capers.
