Compensatory Picks Are In

Probably just splitting hairs... but how did the Chargers, 49ers, and Colts end up in front of us? I thought Woodson would have been considered the biggest Free Agent loss of any team.

Brees, Julian Peterson, and Edge I assume. Tough to argue with the NFC MVP and JP Pro Bowl. Overall, I'm happy we did get the 3rd for Chaz. Was looking more like a 4th.

On a contract basis (per year average), Woodson was a distant 4th to the above-mentioned 3 guys.

However, he was significantly higher than anyone that netted a 4th, so I think the NFL did the right thing.

Woodson was the only player in that range, so it was easier for the NFL to just tag his pick onto the end of the 3rd, rather than at the end of the 4th, with a bunch of other guys making a lot less.

It could have gone either way, and we got lucky.

I think they just didn't want to risk getting a call from one of Al's pitbull lawyers.

Why? I'm extremely pleased to get a 3rd for one of the most overated players I've seen in years.

This is the best thing he's done for the Raiders since 2001 (his last decent year in Oakland)

From some reason, I thought Brees was traded... That makes sense... Still skeptical about Peterson and especially Edge.

We're lucky Brees hurt his shoulder in 2005. Chargers were poised to trade him for a hell of lot more then what the Falcons got for Matt Schaub. I'm crossing my fingers nobody ponies up a great pick for Michael Turner this year.

Yeah, he overrated his way to 8 interceptions and lockdown defense last year

I believe the primary variable in the calculation/award is contract value and games played. They all played in 16 games and the other three guys have contracts up around $7M, while Woodson was down at about $5.5M. I really thought we were going to get hosed on this.. color me suprised!

For only half the year. In the first half of the year he was getting burnt, although he still got a few picks I believe. He was giving up damn near a TD a game for a few games in a row and looking horrible. Really turned it on last half of the year though and put together a good ending for him. Honestly, I would much, much rather have Asomugha. Healthier, team player, and gives us better production.

(the sound of crickets looms large)

How often did Ed McCraffrey make CWOOD his bitch back in the day? Countless times.

Logic to a CWOOD cool aid drinker is like holy water to a vampire. Trust me, they will never get it.

NO CB is worht what he was being paid. Especially one who was injured more than he was effective.

Honestly, I loved watching Woodson play. He was always a guy that had amazing talent and played all out all the time. Great tackler, damn good in coverage. I miss the guy, but no way would I pay that amount of money to a guy that hasn't been healthy in what? 3 years?

Thanks... I would have thought on field performance meant something. Guess not.

He played some damn solid football when he was healthy. He was never the same after the turf toe injury, but still as close to a shut down corner as anybody in the league.

I paid attention to him more than any other player on our defense... and I really don't recall McCaffrey getting anything on Woodson.

Because he didn't, McCaffrey used to roast EA. For some god forsaken reason we used to play CWood on Smith and the small CB on the 12' tall receiver (ok ok maybe he was only 11' tall). This is just a prime example of another CWood hater talking trash about the guy even though he isn't here. He isn't even on the team, yet they feel the need to take shots at the guy who would STILL be our best defensive back.

^^^C-Wood nuthugger^^^

Methinks you are more of a nuthugger than any of us are 'haters'

Sorry, but that statement is false. Asomugha is better than him, no doubt. If you want to go back to the past, then yes, Woodson was our best defensive back, but times have changed. Woodson's still a good player and I hope he stays healthy enough to prove fans that he wasn't overrated, but quite frankly I'm glad he's gone. He cost way to much.

This is coming from one of CWood's biggest supporters while he was here. I wish him all the best in his 2nd year in Green Bay.

*BUZZZZ*

Time!

Okay, time to switch to the Gannon Nuthuggers vs. Gannon Haters argument.
