: Josh McDaniels

I know he doesn’t have a job right now. That’s the point. With each passing week Antonio Pierce and the Raiders reveal what a fraud McDaniels was as head coach. Sure, Las Vegas lost to the Dolphins in Week 11 — but a one-score loss to one of the best teams in the NFL with a rookie QB is a serious win.

This team is really responding to Pierce as head coach and he should absolutely get the nod for the Raiders long-term. Unfortunately the Raiders are allergic to good decisions and will probably end up hiring Jim Harbaugh or something.

I am holding my judgment on AP until we play the chiefs 2x. I want to see how he does the first time win or lose and then how he follows it up the next time we play them.

I would expect a somewhat close game this week but a loss none the less. However when we play them again in December if we can keep it close and not get exposed as a rookie coach can easily be then we may be on to something. We can’t have a HC that doesn’t know how to step up and adjust his game plan and get exposed the 2nd time we play a division rival.

This^^^. That has been our coaching achilles heal for as long as I can remember. Does AP have that ability? TWT. It's obvious the players like him and he has them playing hard, but in the grand scheme of things, that only gets you so far in today's NFL.

It would be nice to keep some continuity in the coaching ranks as this has been a revolving door of coaches and players for the past 30 years.

I think at minimum we need a new OC. The idea of a players coach only works if he has great X’s and O’s coaches surrounding him. Thus far I am quite happy with the way our D has played this year, outside a few dumb games. We may have something with this guy as our DC. I may be inclined to keep that going no matter what we do at HC GM and OC in 24.

This.

I've been thinking the same - I can see how a good "player's coach" can work for a team. You need someone pulling everyone together, setting the tone, focusing on the players and defining strategy. And making game-time decisions and defining overall direction for both sides of the ball.

I think having experts in one or other as head coach can mean they focus exclusively on that side. You often get players on the other side (usually the defense) saying things like "I don't know, didn't really have dealings with him" when one of these specialists acting a head coach gets fired.

So maybe, having two good coordinators and a head coach focusing on big picture might well work. And I'd say Graham deserves his chance next year. Especially if we get him some pieces and see what happens.

If we keep AP he should be allowed to pick his staff. Just don't give him the final say over the roster.
Like drafting and signing FAs but all HCs get final say on roster don't they? As in who makes the cut post training camp?

I love Harbaugh but damn I don't know if I can take another drama filled HC.
And HC controlling the draft. That’s what troubles me. That said, it’s not my money. Passing on Harbaugh for AP makes no sense.

Most well run organization have a collaboration between the GM and the HC. The GM usually has the final say. But if there is good synergism between the two it should not be a problem. I don't think giving the HC complete control over the roster is healthy.

Another thing that favors a HC that brings a system is the ability to maintain scheme continuity and a coaching tree. Theoretically if we retained AP and brought in a really strong OC, that guy is going to get picked up eventually and likely take his assistants with him, leaving us to start over. Obviously that’s putting the cart way before the horse but just in terms of making an argument for a strong play calling type HC, that’s something to consider. Obviously we also really don’t know if AP is strong with defensive X’s and O’s either.

Ain’t no way AP would’ve been in favor of picking Wilson over Carter.

Harbaugh just strikes me as one of those coaches that just wear out their owners and the players around him. Ya he may get some wins for a season or two, but I don’t know if he can sustain it year after year like Andy or BB did.

As much as I would like to say Mark didn’t sway GM and coaches draft. I kinda think w/ Carter it was a understanding not to grab a guy w/ a history of being in trouble.

I kinda get it too. How many draft picks over the past few years have gone off and done stupid shit? Ya I get it

That should be obvious to all.

I mean, it wasn't just that McDumbass was an arrogant asshole and shitty HC....

His vaunted offensive 'system' and play design sucks. Sadly, we're still running it.

Unless Bo can come up with something entirely new, he's got to go too.

We're tainted. All vestiges of the John Carroll clown regime must be eradicated.

there were still better picks than wilson
