CHIEFS NOTEBOOK | Huard feeling all right
The Kansas City Star

Damon Huard reported no problems with the strained groin muscle that left his status in doubt for last week’s game against Seattle. He isn’t even listed on the injury report for Sunday’s game at St. Louis.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” he said Thursday. “I definitely feel I’ve turned the corner and am over the hump. I really haven’t had any problems the last couple of days.”

The Chiefs should return home from St. Louis on Sunday in time to watch the night game between New England and Indianapolis. The game is of more than passing interest to Huard.

He formerly played for the Patriots and was awarded a game ball after the 2003 AFC championship game when New England beat the Colts. He mimicked Peyton Manning so well in practice that week that his coaches believed he deserved the honor.

Rams sport a new look

Once the Rams fired Mike Martz as their coach and replaced him with Scott Linehan, they no longer were the NFL’s Greatest Show on Turf. Linehan, much like the Chiefs’ Herm Edwards, puts a higher premium on ball control than big plays from his offense.

The change obviously suits quarterback Marc Bulger, who is the NFC’s leading passer. Bulger has thrown 12 touchdowns but only one interception this season.

The Rams are scoring 29 points per game through their last four after starting slowly on offense. That’s in large part because Bulger is becoming more comfortable with Linehan’s philosophy.

“One of the major points of emphasis in the spring and summer was to take care of the ball,” Bulger said. “We’ve done a pretty good job of that. There are definitely circumstances where I would have thrown a pass with Coach Martz that I wouldn’t this year. I’m checking down a lot more, and it’s paying off.”

Injury report

Kevin Sampson didn’t practice. If he’s not ready by Sunday, Kyle Turley would start in his spot at right tackle.

That quite a list of injuries. I think Seattle has one to match it however.
