Hurtin’ Hall
Return specialist Dante Hall is nursing two injuries, one to a hip and one to his back, and said he’s aiming to return to practice on Friday.
Hall was helped off the field Sunday in the Chiefs’ 23-20 win at Arizona, and appeared to be in serious pain.
“I’ll find a way to play,” Hall said. “It’s Pittsburgh.”
Familiar foes
Because he has a long history with Pittsburgh coach Bill Cowher, Chiefs president/general manager Carl Peterson knows that the Steelers’ 1-3 start must be driving “The Chin” crazy.
Peterson signed Cowher as a rookie free agent linebacker in 1979 in Philadelphia, and later cut him. Even back then, Cowher was tough. And Peterson was known as a tough negotiator.
He later asked Cowher if he wanted another shot, and re-signed him. But there was a catch.
“I said, ‘Well, I’ll sign you to the same contract, but this time the $500 signing bonus is out,’ ” Peterson said.
Tailgate with Trent
Quarterback Trent Green will hold a “Tailgating with Trent” fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Chiefs practice facility. It’s the fifth year of the event. Zarda barbecue will be served and fans can meet players and cheerleaders.
Proceeds will benefit the Child Life department at Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Injury report
Neither Larry Johnson nor Hall practiced Wednesday, but the Chiefs listed both as likely to play in Sunday’s game at Pittsburgh.
Tackle Kyle Turley practiced for the first time in two weeks, but Edwards said if Turley played against the Steelers, it would be as a backup. Jordan Black and Kevin Sampson would remain as the starting tackles.
“I don’t want to disrupt the apple cart,” Edwards said. “We’ve done that too much with the offensive line. We’ve played two games now with our tackles. We’ve got to continue to do that. We can’t keep switching guys in and out of there.
“We’ve got two healthy tackles that have played two games and we’ve won both of them.”
