The Chargers are searching for an offensive line coach at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., beginning the week by interviewing former New Orleans Saints offensive line coach Jack Henry.
Head coach Marty Schottenheimer would not confirm any candidates, but said "in a perfect world" he would have a coach named by the end of the week.
The Chargers' coaching and personnel staffs are in Mobile evaluating many of the nation's top college seniors.
Henry, well-regarded around the NFL for his demeanor and coaching ability, coached the Chargers offensive line in 1996.
The Chargers last week fired line coach Carl Mauck, whose volatility did not always mesh with his players and some fellow assistants, though Schottenheimer insisted yesterday he had no problem with Mauck's personality.
Mauck said yesterday he remains "hot" about being let go after just one season.
"I don't think it was right," said Mauck, who is in Mobile looking for a new job.
Also, the Chargers have lost Fran Foley, director of pro scouting, to the Minnesota Vikings. Foley has agreed to become the Vikings' vice president of player personnel.
