Lions signed Calvin Johnson to a six-year contract. Terms haven't been disclosed.
Johnson was on the field Friday morning before the ink was dry. He missed eight days of practice, which is a concern for a rookie receiver. But Johnson's maturity and skill aren't like normal rookies, and he has enough time to get ready for the season. We have him ranked as the 21st best wideout, our highest-ever ranking for a rookie reciever

BTSW, Jat, your new avatar is gay! :D

You sure that's not the logo for the Mexico City Raiders once they move in 2014? That dude sure is rockin' the latin love machine mustachio.

Now we'll see what's going to come from all of this. The structure of Johnson's contract will have a large bearing upon how the Raiders are able to set up the deal for Russell. I understand from reading various reports that Kiffen and Russell have been in constant, if not daily, contact. Hopefully we can get an acceptable structure in place and Kiff can bend JRuss's ear and say "put some pressure on your people to get this done."

Yeah almost looks like they used your guy Ron Jeremy as the Model NICE!!!!

I am looking for the Link to show you guys all the old logos this was the funniest one....It's clear that when the Bucs started with that Gay pirate they had they ripped it off of this image....

Early reports are CJ got $27.1 million in guarantees. So far so good there.

Now the reports should come out indicating if there's an options bonus in there or not.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the six-year deal includes almost $27.2 million in guaranteed money, and a maximum value of $64 million.

That should pretty much lock in Russell's contract somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 yrs./$67million with $29 guaranteed.

It's unimaginable to me how how current system has reached the point where rookies are killing most good vets in money

JOHNSON DEAL SETS STAGE FOR RUSSELL CONTRACT

A league source tells us that the contract signed to Lions receiver Calvin Johnson includes no option bonus.

As a practical matter, this wrinkle could quickly crack the impasse between the Raiders and No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell, since the Raiders and Russell's agents have been wrangling over the amount of Russell's option bonus.

The team is willing to include some of the money as a roster bonus -- but Russell's agents want to maximize the amount of the option bonus. The concept of the option bonus has become significant this year, since teams cannot seek reimbursement of any amount of the option bonus if the player later holds out, is suspended, or otherwise defaults.

Since Johnson got no option bonus at No. 2, the Raiders have some extra leverage to hold the amount of the option bonus down.

Also, the fact that Johnson even has a deal in place significantly increases the chances of a Russell deal getting done, since now there's no way that the Russell deal can be eclipsed after the fact. We previously reported that the Russell camp would wait for the Johnson deal to come in before finalizing anything with the Raiders.

In lieu of an option bonus, we're told that Johnson will receive an $8 million advance on guaranteed future salaries early in the 2008 league year. Though we haven't researched this specific issue, we assume that the Lions would be able to recover the advance on the future salaries if Johnson later defaults in some way.

6 yrs 55.5 mil..... 27.2 upfront

I said that the Raiders would have to commit 27-28 million in guarenteed money some days ago. Nothing has changed and OF COURSE I was right.

Close this shit out, please.

Im thinking if CJ got 27.2, Russell is almost assured a 10% increase on Mario Williams 26 mil, plus a little icing on the cake for being a QB...

Im guessing 29-30 mil.

What happens if the Russell camp wants a 5 year deal instead of a 6?...

Not that I'm a professional...

But it would have to start with a club option, not a player option... Davis wouldn't go for anything else. So, with that in mind, 5 yrs/$52 million with $28 million in guarantees with a club option for a 6th year at $12 million (base salary) seems about right.

Look at the bright side. At least we arent waiting for Brady Quinn to get his ass into Raider camp!
