Calvin Johnson... am I the only one...

As anti-WR as I am, I am pro-Calvin. I am pretty sure he'll be a stud, and might be TO with better hands and no attitude. That's pretty awesome.

I don't think he's the deep threat Moss was, which is why I think it'll be tough for him to make that kind of impact as a rookie.

So yeah, I guess I agree, I don't know if he plays that fast. There's fast, and then there's Moss, Troy Williamson, Tedd Ginn fast. He ain't that fast. But he's more than fast enough.

...who thinks he doesn't PLAY all that fast?

I said something similar before and then that fug ran a 4.3 on me to shut me up

I agree though... the guy is all world, no doubting that... but he didn't play to a sudden or quick athlete... Like I said before, it just seems like most of his catches came with a corner right on his hip... I don't think he's the type that will eat up 7-10 yards of cushion the way a young Moss did...

That said, I think the TO without out the tude comparisons are fairly accurate... If you get him in a system where he runs alot of crossing routes and routes that will bring his size advantage into play, he'll be a huge factor.... Kinda of the way Sean Peyton used Colston this past year in fact...

He's fast enough.

Adding to that he's 6-8 300 pounds...

The guy is an android.

he doesnt look fast for the same reason people think randy moss looks slower now. because tall guys never look fast running. can't think of one 6ft 4in or taller receiver with even mild speed who looks as fast as they are.

He is a match-up nightmare. Corners arent big enough to get around him or jump with him, and safties cant catch him. He has incredibly long arms too which make it look like he is posting up when he catches short balls with CB's helplessly stuck behind him. He is going to be a stud and would be unstopppable in a WCO... Terrell Owens is a really good comparision on the field, but with GREAT hands and more speed... he is a cyborg.

I'm really, REALLY hoping we draft this kid and pick up our QB-draftee later on. He will be a first down and touchdown machine. How do you guard the guy with anything less than 2 and 3 defenders? You can't! So, you either enjoy 1v1 matchups across the board elsewhere on the field or you throw big C-J the rock downfield and eat 'em up all day.

See? Now everybody starts over analyzing Calvin Johnson because, of all things, he doesn't appear fast enough.

Apparently the process is too long for us and the "experts". Sooner or later we find that every player is flawed... Johnson too slow; Ja too fat; Brady to cool; AP too injury prone --- Wooooooooooooooooooooooo.

In my opinion he is a "fluid" runner and has what I call "soft" feet. He doesn't run "choppy" or "short" strides which often at times makes a receiver appear to be "fast" such as a Steve Smith or Santana Moss. (both of those guys are fast by the way) CJ strides and cuts with ease, it's not a "hard plant" then change of direction. His fluid style with soft feet almost make his routes as "one"motion. He is a larger WR as well which displays the smoke and mirrors in which he appears slower then timed. Just the same as T.O...T.O doesn't appear fast, yet he gets a step on a DB and they don't catch him. The key to CJ's success in my eyes will be his open field running and his ability to use his body.

Anquan Bolden doesn't run blazing timed 40's, but the dude is a monster come game time and has good enough game speed and strength. I think CJ will be a combination of an Anquan Bolden/T.O Wideout in the NFL.

I agree that he dosn't 'seem' to be that quick type athlete, but I've seen some highlights where he has a step when he catches the ball and he just runs away from everybody... so I dunno if it's just that long-legged illusion or what...
