NFL player wanted in Florida arrested in Lexington County
July 5, 2007
CHAPIN, SC (WIS) - A news release states Lexington County authorities took a defensive end with the NFL's Oakland Raiders into custody on Thursday.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Bryant Ashley McNeal, 27, of Chapin, was being held on Thursday at the Lexington County Detention while awaiting extradition to Florida.
McNeal, a former football player at Swansea High School and Clemson University, faces trial on an arrest warrant that was obtained on February 8, 2006 by the Pinellas County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office after McNeal violated a Florida law governing pawn broking, Metts said.
McNeal was arrested by a Chapin police officer around 3:35am during a traffic stop.
Metts said the officer charged McNeal with driving with a suspended South Carolina driver's license and driving a vehicle without a headlight.
A supervisor with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department Fugitive Unit questioned McNeal after the arrest and obtained McNeal's consent to waive extradition to Florida, Metts said.
An arrest warrant for McNeal also had been issued by Richland County Magistrate Willie H. Womble, Jr. on March 1, 2007, alleging that McNeal wrote a fraudulent check in the amount of $1,500 to Berger Dental Group, Metts said.
McNeal was served with the Richland County arrest warrant on Thursday after he was arrested following the traffic stop in Chapin.
