I'm just confused. How must Brooks and Walter feel? How does Brady Quinn feel?

Brooks to start
Posted by Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer on December 18th, 2006

Coach Art Shell, without much in the way of elaboration, said Aaron Brooks will start Saturday night when the Raiders host the Kansas City Chiefs at McAfee Coliseum.

"Aaron will be the quarterback,'' Shell said at his weekly press conference Monday.

Brooks was removed in place of Andrew Walter in the fourth quarter of a 20-0 loss to the St. Louis Rams. He vented his frustrated with the way it was handled after the game.

Shell was not surprised.

"Nobody likes to be taken out of a game,'' Shell said. "I don't expect anything different from that. He's a competitor and he wants to be in the game at all times in every situation. So that doesn't surprise me.''

I'm sure if the roles were reversed and Walter bitched about it, he'd be sitting down. I love Shell's selective reasoning. Same with the Moss/Porter thing. I'm hating this douchebag more and more each day.

I had no idea Art Shell could be so cruel. Ants must have died by the millions when he was a little boy with a magnifying lens. My fucking heads on fire...

In the same press conference Shell also mentioned Alvis Whitted is out for the year. Morant, Curry and Gabriel Anyone?

Brooks: 'What have I got into?'

- By JOSH DUBOW, AP Sports Writer
Monday, December 18, 2006

(12-18) 15:22 PST Alameda, Calif. (AP) --

When Aaron Brooks signed with the Oakland Raiders, he was looking forward to teaming with Randy Moss and Jerry Porter in what he hoped to be a revival season after last year's disappointment in New Orleans.

At his first minicamp, Brooks talked about how playing with a receiver like Moss would bring a "smile" to any quarterback's face.

There's been little for Brooks to smile about this season and he admits he's thought "what have I got into?"

He got hurt in the second game of the season as Oakland opened with back-to-back blowout losses. By the time Brooks returned in November, Oakland had slipped to 2-7 and the season was lost.

Five more losses with Brooks at the helm followed and the Raiders (2-12) are one loss away from matching the 1962 team for most defeats in franchise history.

The latest defeat was as bad as any this season as Oakland fell 20-0 to a St. Louis team that had been allowing more than 25 points per game, including 42 the previous week against Chicago. Oakland has been shut out three times this season, including twice at home.

"Not in a million years when I got here," Brooks said when asked if he could have imagined the problems this season.

With the Raiders possibly targeting a quarterback with their first-round pick next year and Brooks looking like he could be a salary cap casualty, he opened up Monday on some of the problems this season for the team.

He said the issues began before the season even started with Porter clashing with Art Shell's coaching staff over offseason workout plans and then publicly demanding a trade at the start of training camp.

"When I got here it was uproar from the jump," Brooks said.

Porter, the team's leading receiver a year ago, was held out of the first four games, suspended for the next two and played sparingly before missing the last four games with a hip injury.

Moss, the team's best big-play threat, has gone on his radio show talking about being traded and saying his bad mood has led to his dropped passes this season.

"Randy was like the perfect model citizen team player before his outburst, so it's like, 'Oh, great. What's really going on?'" Brooks said. "You see other issues across the board, as far as offensively is concerned that make you think ... what have I got into? So, but it's been tough. A lot of time I've been biting that fist of mine."

Porter has played only two plays since Brooks returned to the starting lineup Nov. 19 against Kansas City. Moss then went down with an ankle injury Dec. 10 against Cincinnati and missed the Rams' game as well.

Alvis Whitted dislocated his wrist Sunday and is done for the season.

"I'm very disappointed with fact that, with the talent that's in this locker room, and the guys that we look at in terms of our skill players and our playmakers, we weren't all on the field at the same time," Brooks said. "It makes my job that much more harder."

Brooks complained Sunday after being pulled for Andrew Waltr in the fourth quarter with the team trailing 13-0. Shell said Brooks would be the starter Saturday against Kansas City when he once again goes for his first win as the Raiders starter.

Brooks was 11-for-19 for 98 yards and one interception against the Rams. He has seven interceptions and just three touchdowns this season.

"There were some opportunities that were missed but again, it's not all Aaron's fault,' Shell said. "There's other things involved in it, but there were some opportunities that were missed."

shoulders some blame for his vets but jumps at his younger qb. selective indeed. He's right that its not all Brooks fault. In fact none of it is IMO nor is it Walter. Its the useless old coach in the mirror who shouldn't be allowed to wear a raider cap at this point.

Does it really matter???

Brooks or Walter, they both STINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what is Walters Valid Excuse? Because the way I see it he has had every opportunity to show something...... and he hasn't stepped up.
Plain and Simple......Just Like Brayton, (and I was a Walter & Brayton supporter) they each have had the chances to show up this year and haven't.
We need a upgrade at both Spots......

For that matter there are a few Raiders that could have stepped up as well this year. Moss, Walker, Anderson, Whited, R. Williams, & Slaughter, unlike some of you I am not willing to write off Grove and Gallery and all the Rookies on the Line yet.
I will give them one more year....

Now for the guys that did step it up, Fargas, Madsen, Boothe, Curry, Stu, ASO, Fabian, Sapp, Morrison, Sands and Burgess.
These guys deserve to be here.....and Hopefully are the foundation to what we want to do Next year.

I just think Walter was in a no win situation. Could someone else have performed better?, maybe but it's really hard to tell with the abortion of an offense we have fielded this year. I think in a better environment, we would be talking about him in a different light.

Fly,
the validity lies in Walter's inexperience. Let's be realistic here. AW has only started eight games...ever. How did Peyton Manning look in his first 8 games? How did Aikman look in his? Hell, Brees looked like crap for two full seasons and it wasn't until his third year starting that it clicked. With the exception of a select few, it's pretty much a given that young qb's are going to struggle early in their careers, no matter how good they end up becomming.

Brayton on the other hand has started almost every game going on three full seasons now (albeit out of position for a lot of them). He's had plenty of time to turn the corner and he just hasn't. He's done imo but I wouldn't be so quick to throw in the towel on Walter. Like many have posted here, an improved o-line, better receivers, and stud running back - along with another year under AW's belt can do wonders. I'll save my evaluation of him after next year, if he's still in the mix.

At this moment what differnce could it make Walter or Brooks?

Except for more experience for AW there's nothing we can get from any of thee guys.

Sadly to say, but it is time for Art to think about the viability of Walter for the near future. As for Brooks we all know he is only a stop gap player.

I'd say that Walter's excuse is inexperience behind a bad Oline, whereas Brooks has had years of starting experience, which should allow him to make better decisions overall.

I'm finally giving up on Brayton as starting material. He may be a valuable backup, but he doesn't have the moves to be a starter. Slide Kelly over to play DE on rushing downs and back in on passing downs.

Grove doesn't have the pop or strength to hold down the fort in the middle, so we need to find a replacement for him (maybe Hulsey?). Gallery gets one more year then gone (as LT) if he can't cut it as a starter at LT. He may be more suited as RT or as a G where he doesn't go up against the speed rushers as much. L Walker needs to be put on the bench, since his fire and talent are apparently gone from him. Slaughter from the little I've seen and read seems to be doing fairly well at LT.

We need a couple of true TE's in there. Many have said grabbing Graham to play the blocking TE and then we can try to find a TE that is strictly a pass catcher that only has to toss a chip block on a DE/LB before going out on his route.

I would say "every opportunity" would mean that AW had an offensive line that consistently gave him time to go through his progressions and make the throw. Having receivers that catch the ball when it hits them in the hands. Having an offensive coordinator that has a clue about what he is doing and establishes a running game instead of calling deep pass after deep pass. You know that none of this has been the case. But I see that you are willing to give Gallery, a player playing a position infinitely less complex, a pass after three (two?) seasons of bad play. What is your reasoning in this? Manning had "every opportunity". Aikman had "every opportunity". Elway had "every opportunity". AW has had 8 games behind the worst offensive line in professional football while getting no help from his receivers or his OC. Don't want much do you? Let's just throw him away and find a "fresh" QB to destroy.

Walter could actually learn something with these last few games

we still havent seen walter operate behind a decent line, good running game, and good WRs

brooks has past his prime, and has nothing to gain from these games

thats my stand on the situation

Learn somethings...

That's something the modern Raiders have problems to achieve.

Well, depending on one's perspective Walter's growing pains this season behind a horrible offensive line might push Art/Al to give the kid another year of seasoning without a young franchise QB (Quinn) breathing down his neck. Some will say that's a good thing due to the improbability of taking a QB in the top 5. Then that pushes Oakland towards Peterson, C. Johnson, J. Thomas, etc. Others will say you cannot pass on a guy like Quinn given the situation the Raiders are currently in.

Of course, if they take some DB from Northwest Appalachia A&T that "reportedly" ran a 4.14 40 it won't matter.

The Media will KILL us if we pass on Quinn. I hope he is the #1 overall, I believe in walter still. He hasnt had his day in court yet IMO. God would be out of the league in two years running our offense this year. A.Peterson is looking more and more like our pick. Al wants his own LT, LJ type. Believe that. At this point whoever we draft is going to help immediatley. If Troy Smith falls to us early Rnd 2 he will be a Raider.

I doubt if the media would end up being THAT harsh on us if we took AP instead of Quinn. Both spots are seen as NEED picks for us to many and getting a dominating RB would help us keep up with the rest of the AFCW and their dominating rushers.
