Broncos Finding 'Comfort Zone' With Cutler

(CBS4/DenverBroncos.com) ENGLEWOOD, Colo. Two weeks into Jay Cutler's quarterbacking stewardship of Denver's offense, he is not only more comfortable on the field, but his teammates are finding a comfort zone with him in the huddle -- although that doesn't blossom without some amount of work and the passage of time and on-field work.
"I think it definitely takes a little while to get familiar with somebody, his style, the way he takes command of the huddle, the way he calls the plays," tight end Stephen Alexander said. "I mean, everybody's different. So I think it definitely takes a while for everybody to be on the same page, but once you're lined up, it's the same plays, it's not like we're running different plays.
"He knows where to go with the ball, so it's really no different that way, but just seeing somebody different in the huddle is definitely different."
And Cutler is a little different from week to week. At such a nascent stage in his career, his on-field evolution won't merely be evident over the course of a season, but from week to week -- sometimes even possession to possession.
One aspect of his game that altered drastically between the Seahawks and Chargers game was the speed at which he witnessed the game transpiring around him.
"I think it slowed down quite a bit," Cutler said. "I was a little bit more comfortable out there in the second game and saw some things that I didn’t see in the first game. So hopefully, continuing into this third game it will slow down even more."
