Broncos' Brandon taken into custody
Posted: Tuesday July 18, 2006 1:59AM

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (AP) -- Denver Broncos safety Sam Brandon was led away from a courtroom Monday after a judge revoked his bond posted for charges stemming from a domestic violence incident last July, authorities said.

Brandon, 27, was found to have violated terms of his release by leaving the state, district attorney spokeswoman Kathleen Walsh said in a statement. He was booked into jail and was released after he posted a new bond that was set at $10,000.

A fourth-round pick by Denver in 2002, Brandon faces a charge of third-degree assault and a charge of criminal mischief, both misdemeanors, stemming from his arrest July 4, 2005. Details were not immediately available but Lt. Alan Stanton of the Douglas County sheriff's department has said they were related to domestic violence.

Neither Broncos officials nor Brandon immediately returned a phone message left at the team's office.

His trial is scheduled for Oct. 3.

At the hearing Monday, a judge granted a prosecutor's request to use a 911 call at Brandon's trial while denying permission to use the accuser's statement to police, Walsh said. A judge also denied a defense request to suppress Brandon's statements and evidence collected at the scene.

Brandon signed a contract extension with the Broncos in February. He appeared in 14 games last regular season, splitting his time on defense and special teams. He recorded 20 tackles, three pass breakups and one fumble recovery. He also filled in at cornerback.
