1) Chuck Pagano has definitely left the Raiders to be the DC with North Carolina...

2) The Raiders have already decided to move Shell upstairs in part due to Al's failing health... They are aggressively persuing hiring an offensive minded head coach from the college level... they apparently have already spoken with Tedford.... They are going to try and move fast on this because the offensive coaching staff will be purged... Having the overall #1 pick is a huge selling point especailly if they are trying to get Weis or Petrino in there... The Shell info is out of NY from the same place where the Bobby Petrino information came from last year when nobody else had him as a candidate...
Take it for what it's worth but if this information is correct you'll all be getting an invoice for the normal $12.95...Nips is the treasure so don't be surprised if the bill comes directly from him! :D

Any thoughts on these INTERNET RUMORS?

Sorry to see Pagano go if this is true.

Whether Art is the HC (or not) I just hope we act quickly & decisively. This is not the year to "let everyone else show their hand" and make a decision at the end.

I want the new HC & his staff to be here early to coordinate the FA process, weed out the players that won't (or shouldn't) be here next year and focus on the draft.

Exactly. This bullshit about waiting things out has bit us in the ass. Look at Pittsburgh. They want to know from Cowher TODAY what his decision is so they can move on if necessary. Arizona and Atl have canned their head coaches and will be in the market place today.

Absolutely. There are a lot of decisions to be made in FA and in the draft. The new staff needs to be here, in place and making those decisions.

I sure home this Bones clown is right cuz enough is enough.

I think we're covered in the secondary if they promote Lorenzo Ward.

If Shell is "promoted" does that mean Lombardi has cleared out his office? I hope Sean Jones is the next Ozzie Newsome. We still need a cap guy / contract negotiator. I thought Lombardi got beat up pretty bad by some agents. We should have been able to get Sapp and Jordan at a cheaper price.

Thanks for the info Bones. I always feel like I have to hide my wallet when I'm visiting that "other" Raider fan site.

Well aside from saving the few sheckles in premium, I guess this is welcome news if it is indeed true. I would have wagered the ranch that the Raiders brass went the declining health issue with the Shell issue. The farther away he gets from personnel decisions, the better IMO.

I think Tedford would be a logical choice and I like the fact that we're supposedly jettisoning the offensive staff including the OL coaches. Marshawn Lynch c'mon down.

So besides being a diabetic, what health issues does Art have? Al is the one with health problems - so what now we end up with Al Davis, Jim Otto, and Art Shell in our front office? What's the shelf life of that trio?

Jeff Tedford would definitely provide some offensive imagineation. He's never had any interest in the past but if we act swiftly and open up the wallet I suppose the move could make sense. Just another 10 minutes south down I-80 to the office for him.

This is good news to hear. As far as Shell's future is concerned, I hope they lock him in a small office with the Penski file. I'm glad Al is looking towards the college ranks for his new coach also.

Sean Jones, Amy Trask and Al's son appear to be the "front office" of the next generation......

I'm not a Weis fan. Runs a solid offense, dont know about him as a HC. Norv Turner syndrome is always a fear. Petrino makes better sense IMO.

College...

Pagano is official:
http://northcarolina.scout.com/2/606002.html

I don't know about college coaches - they seem to need a first HC job (where they suck) before they learn enough to be good. Petrino may be the exception.
Martindale to DC and Ryan to HC??

More News...

From "the way I hear it file... hear is the latest as respects what may be going down:

Sources I'm close to (:p) are saying that apparently a lot depends on what Saban does... If Saban truns down the the job at Alabama (which he has reportedly delayed a decision until tomorrow) then the Tide allegedly has a big money offer with Petrino on the back burner. But apparently the Raiders, having had negotiations with Petrino before, are still very interested.

I'm also hearing that Charlie Weiss definitely wants a shot to coach in the NFL. It's even possible that Weiss' agent was the one leaking information to Adam Shefter that Art was being fired in an attempt to create more of a bidding war for Mr. W.

Apparently Weis's health isn't great and he apparently doesn't like the added stress of dealing with high powered alumni and making speeches that comes with the a big time college HC job like Notre Dame.

This is just speculation but my source thinks if the Raiders make an offer Weiss will jump at it because of his relationship with Rob Ryan and because Brady Quinn already knows his offense and because Weiss may prefer the smaller market to the the pressure cooker in a place like New York. It's also speculated that this could be a critical year for Weiss to jump to the NFL as he might not be such a hot commodity while trying to break in a new QB at Notre Dame. Further it was pointed out that it shouldn't be underestimated how important it might be that Weiss would have the chance to draft Quinn. Weiss got Quinn to sign with the same agent that represents Tom Brady.

That's it from me. I hope for one time in my life somebody gave me some good information. Again take it for what it's worth all the time remembering that the information didn't cost you a friggin' dime! ;)

A man can dream...

Weiss together with Ryan and BQ at the helm - that sounds too good to be true. Also, FWIW, when Weiss was t New England, the Raiders were a good team - a quality rival with the Patsies.
They would need an OC. Any chance Russ Grim (O-line coach Steelers), whose name is in the ring with a number of HC opportunities (ATL and ARZ), would step up to an OC position. I know Wisenhunt is most likely gone so Grim would likely be offered the OC position there (and take it). Maybe Dan Henning or Bill Muir would come over (Weis's guys) for an Asst HC title...

What happened to all the "dream job" talk from Weiss in regard to Notre Dame? Bwahahahahahaha

Petrino versus Weiss? I don't feel strongly about either one, but I'd probably prefer Weiss simply because he has NFL experience.

Nick Saban was considered a savior in Miami in 2005 and now he's ready to quit after year two? I think most of these college coaches have a hard time in the NFL. JMO of course.

The other positive about hiring a Charlie Weiss is that we could promote Rob Ryan or whomever is our OC once Weiss decides to retire. That would still constitute "continuity" in my book.

I'm not to excited about Dan Henning. Bring some new blood to the table.

I hlghly doubt all of this.

When all is said and done, it'll be down to Fassel, Denny Green or some unknown like James Lofton.

Petrino and Weiss are pipe dreams.

Wow. I am not getting too hopeful here, but it's hard not to be intrigued. I have a funny feeling we end up with Petrino and/or Lofton. I think H-Boy convinced me.

I'll go on the record as saying that Weiss is a mistake at HC IMO. OC? I'm for it. HC? mistake I think.

Another thought

Isn't the raiders HC job more attractive this year? Whoever comes in will inherit the #3 rated defense in the NFL and will finish with a better record and show improvement. Art Shell can be the guy who cleans house - thus giving any coach at least two years with solid improvement before he even needs to get to the playoffs (6-10, 8-8).
