Black Thursday

Take it for what it is worth but this is from someone that is not in the media...

Talked to John Dewberry Kens old Qb. Its an official no. Cowher encouraged ken to turn the job down because he can make better money by coming out next year. Also affecting the decision was Al's unwillingness to relinquish input on staff hirings and FA aqquisitions. We were very far apart on money. Ken was not fond of having Randy Moss in the clubhouse either and wanted to pursue avenues other than Kerry Collins at the qb posistion. We have talented personell but some of their attitudes was not something ken wanted to deal with. Sorry but its true. Apparently Al wants Schoop to be the OC as well which was a major difference of opinion not to mention the 7 figure difference on salary

I don't think of it as a bad thing. Did everyone see the video interview with Whisenhunt? I got bad vibes from it. The guy was very non-commital and generally evasive, not that the interviewer was worth a damn. Ken came across as unexpressive and detached, not qualities I want in a head coach. And if those are not really his qualities, then it was his attitude toward the job. And who would want that kind of head coach?

Yes and I commented on that video. He didn't look excited or prepared. From the answers he gave to the reporter I thought Al would eat his lunch if he came up with lame "I dunno's" to Al. I believe Whisenhunt did this to see what it was like. I also think advice from Cowher hurt our chances a lot.

So I'll take Art. At least he is a Raider through and through.

I'd be less than honest, however, if I said I wasn't disappointed. I think Whisenhunt would have made a good HC for us. But we'll never knw.

Well on second through fuck Whisenhunt. You're either with us or you're against us.

Now I think I am upset.

honestly, we are officially the laughing stock in the nfl. sorry i can't support another puppet. yes, art shell had winning record but why m ake us wait just to hire him. why not just hire him after turner firing. what waste this has been. waiting for good coach i n all along he gonna hire a puppet.

sportscenter just said after whisenhunt turn us down

raiders offer bobby petrino 5 yr deal $18mill dollar contract and he still turn us down.

so it isn't about the money

its about not wanting to work with al davis.

I think that it is the amount of guaranteed years. For Petrino, only two years of that was to be guaranteed. Even though we didn't offer Whisenhunt a contract, he wanted more years guaranteed.

We have gone after Petrino three times thus far. I believe he was the one Al wanted and may still want all along. Whether he pursues Petrino further is anyone's guess. JMO.

From the reports I read, the Petrino offer was made while Whisenhunt was still at Raiders HQ.

Additionally, Petrino might like being the big fish in a small pond. Not that college is a small pond, but once you get in like Flynn why on earth wouldn't you play that string ALL the way out.

Apologies to anyone out there from Kentucky, but Oakland doesn't have as many inbred 14-year olds that would consider it a priviledge to be offered to the head coach of a football program. (Is this a family channel?)

Regarding Art: I see him as (once again) the best coach for the situation. Like the Shanahan team, this team has a bunch of free-spirits who just want to be put in position to win. Most of them know how to play football, and even though Art isn't the coaching genius so many others are made out to be, he actually made quite a lot out of some odd combinations of players.

Adam Schefler (sp?) just reported that the big stumbling block for Petrino was that his son didn't want to leave Louisville.

I'm not sure I buy that but it's pretty convenient.

It's just upsetting that an organization that has one of only 32 positions in the world avaiable and too many people have withdrew their names from consideration.
