Please, I beg of you... if you are a guy who hates guns, just leave the thread. Any argument you may have against gun ownership, no matter how cleverly crafted or irrefutable you believe it to be, really is not what this thread is for.

So... I've been looking around, asking friends, and they all come down to basically these 4 handguns:

1. Glock 19
2. Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm
3. Sig Sauer P229
4. Walther CCP

I really don't care to carry anything under 9mm and my penis is sufficiently average enough that I don't necessarily need a .45, so I'm looking to stay in the 9mm or .40 area. Obviously, I plan on test firing at the range before I buy but I want to kind of narrow it down a little. Right now, I think the M&P is in the lead. I generally like Sigs but - GODDAMN - they sure are proud of their product. I like the way the Glock feels but get a little sketched out about the whole "no safety" thing, as there are kids in the house. The Walther... well, I don't know anything about it except that one friend says "buy it, you'll thank me later" and another says, "pffffft. Don't waste your money.

What say you?

Got a P226.But that's full size and 15 shot clip is now illegal in Cal.Sig is regarded as one of the best.

I have only 2 suggestions:

1. A Springfield Armory .45 caliber Officer's Sidearm. It's got a double safety that is very easy to use and not as bulky feeling as the Glock

2. An old-school rounded metal lunchbox to carry it in

That'll do

I was thinking of just getting a 38 revolver just for home protection. Pretty much fool proof. Never have to worry about it jamming up. Cant see paying all that money for a Sig or a Walther unless you plan on using it at the range. Its like a two day waiting period here in Fla. and pretty easy to get a concealed permit as well.

The best gun for home protection is a shotgun. The sound of racking a shell scares off most folks and you don't have to worry about a bullet passing through the wall and possibly injuring an innocent bystander. Plus, you really don't need to aim it...just point in in the general direction of the shitbag that is now in your house and you will probably hit him.

I agree that a shotgun in good for home protection. But I'm looking for a concealed weapon. Went and checked out the M&P9 and the Glock 19 yesterday. Both are comfortable and lightweight but I do worry that, because I am a skinny dude, the gun will be visible. I also checked out the M&P Shield and the Glock 43.

I know...I was responding to Turk. As for concealed weapons...my dad likes the following: (he prefers revolvers for CC)

Charter Arms Undercover
Taurus 85 CH

If revolvers aren't your thing then try the Sig P250.

Just needed to add. FUCK NY gun laws.

That's why I started out looking at a Sig... but that P229? $1200. Meanwhile, the M&P is under $600. That's fucking nuts! I like Sig... but just not as much as Sig likes Sig.

Get yourself a Derringer or two. Keep one between your cheeks and the other under your sac. Just be careful of premature fire if you're getting frisky.

I was half tempted to troll and make an anti gun post, but then realized someone would then springboard that into an actual debate, and then the thread would get closed while Bones took a break from taking pictures of himself in tighty whities and decided against it. So, you're welcome Stepper.

Meh. That's not really all that true any more. Semi-autos are smoother and hold more ammunition.

So what did you end up going with @TheNextStep ?

I’m thinking about picking up one of those Springfield XD .40’s. My buddy got one and likes it. They have a nice feel... small but not too small.
