Belated welcome to the team Antonio Pierce

Do you agree with this take; that AP should not be judged by wins or losses?

Well yes and no. After all, wins and losses are what coaches are normally judged by. But with the Raiders I guess there are always excuses why wins and losses aren't important.

Wins and losses are definitely part of evaluating how competitive the team is but a bigger factor is going to be what his plan is going forward, what staff he can put together, and how he compares to other candidates.

On one hand, if they play the Chiefs close twice, then that's great even in a loss. On the other hand, the rest of the schedule is winnable so if they're playing that well, they should finish 4-2. I'd say W-L would matter less if the teams were either shit, or great, but it's a pretty neutral schedule I think.

He’s in a tough spot being dependent on rookies at two really critical roles in QB and OC. It’s hard to put tangible expectations on this but I think we’ll know it when we see it by the end of the season. He’s going to have to show that he can accelerate his own growth. What we do at QB is going to be huge too. If we’re drafting someone high, he’s going to have to put together a helluva pitch at key coaching positions for there to be a level of comfort entrusting him with that IMO.

yeah, as you noted, that would be step two for me. Meaning if the team just goes to shit I don't even care about what staff he can put together, but if they do well enough he warrants a look, this is next, and the most important overall.

He should have the same leeway as McDaniels, given as he painted the place in Patriot colors. AP walked into a a situation that McDaniels fucked up as much as possible in his time.

I do think how we look in losses should be a factor. It isn’t his fault we don’t have a QB. Expectations should only be so high…
Agreed. It's how they lose to superior teams, like the Chiefs. Do they compete? Will they get blown out?

The most significant factors, in my opinion, of how Raiders perform in the teams that are not head and shoulders above the Raiders: Vikings, Colts, Broncos, Chargers.

Yet I'm tired of those who take the most extreme position and say he should have the job now. Al Davis said "just win baby." He didn't say:

"Just compete baby"
"Don't get blown out baby"
"Put up a good effort baby"

Raiders need to win those games versus teams that are decent, but not elite, as mentioned.

I think he should be judged by wins and losses -- but not this season. What he's trying to do now is the equivalent of trying to win a Formula 1 race with a car in which the previous driver threw a rod and burned out the brakes.

One could argue that Rich Bisaccia drove the Raiders into the playoffs under similar circumstances -- but were the circumstances really similar? The Raiders were beset by scandal and tragedy, ending with the firing of Jon Gruden. But Gruden had not lost the locker room to the extent that Gosh McDaniels clearly did, nor had he leave Bisaccia with a totally broken offense. In that respect, Antonio Pierce has a much higher mountain to climb.

Bisaccia did lose Ruggs.

So in the hunt for ROY, all rookie team, voted top 50 player in the league going into year 2? That trajectory? Must be expecting one hell of a final stretch.

 I'm willing to give him a mulligan for not having a camp and coming off the foot injury. Hopefully not another Cle Ferrell we pissed away a pick on.

So far he has the team competing. We probably win last week if we had a veteran signal caller back there not named JG or BH lol. He is really in a tough predicament. Mark seems enamored with the high profile type HC candidates which exactly hasn't ended well but AP has the support of the locker room.

I'm in the camp of trying to keep some continuity going on here. Just can't keep churning the coaching staff over every 2-3 years. As alluded to, AP is going to have to make a strong case for being retained and does he have the juice in the league to put together a competent staff?

The last 40 seconds of the first half in Miami told me all I need to know.

Don't want to hear any explanations or excuses, because that shit was inexcusable.

Pierce can't be the guy in 2024. No fucking way.
