Art Shell Fired?

Still waiting for the "BIG" news from Al! So being impatient I am going to do my Nostradamus impression.

At the end of the season Al will do the following.

1. Move Art up to the office.

2. Trade Moss.

3. Name the new Raider head coach--- Bill Parcells the "BIG TUNA" (Cowboys will name Petrino their new HC)

4. Steal Lofton from the bolts and name him the OC to be groomed for the HC job when Parcells is done.

5. Name Rich Gannon the new QB coach.

6. Pick up QB Chris Sims to compete for QB job

7. Draft AD Peterson

Subject to change with the tea leaves

All those scenarios are feasible with the exception of the Tuna coming here. I think Al can walk around this firing rumor by just moving Shell upstairs. Hell I'd be happy with Jim Fassil as HC with Lofton as OC. I'm not sure that Lofton is ready to make the big jump from Receiver coach to HC although it would be great to steal a coach away from a divisional rival.

Anyone else think Denny Green comes here after getting axed in Arizona?

I hope not. I had some interest in DG when Al Davis hired Norv Turner, but not much now. I think his "window" has come & gone as an NFL Head Coach.

What will the Raiders do? I have no freakin' clue but Nmandi Asomugah was quoted after the chef game the Art should return. For what it's worth.

Ariz should be knocking on the playoff door with the players they have and the weak division they play in. DG has really underachieved. I think there was talks of him coming to Oakland in the past but I think he had a lot of player personnel input in Zona, won't happen here.

Back to Art, I just think it's a mistake in the big picture to change the HC (and system) again.

While Jerry Porter and some of the other guys on offense want Art gone, when one of the best players (Asomugha) from the most solid unit on the team (defense) comes out in favor of Art Shell, I'd personally hold that opinion in higher regard than I would from JP, Randy Moss, etc.

I'd like to retain Art Shell, of course retain Rob Ryan at DC, and hire a young hot candidate for the OC job. James Lofton? Fine. Do it.

Art coaches for a anothe 1-2 years and we then promote either RR or the young OC to the Head Coach job.

Continuity is key IMHO.

He was also quoted a year ago hoping that Norv Turner would return too. Used the same reasoning about continuity. Seems like the kind of guy who doesn't want to rock the boat.

Actually, what Nnamdi said was (paraphrasing here) that he wanted Art back because he's been through enough new coaches and rebuilding years and he wishes that people would "Give the guy a chance."

As absolutely disgusted as I am with this season and while still assigning the blame for Tom Walsh on Art, I have to admit that it is hard for me to disagree with Nnamdi on that one. Give Art another year. Force him to bring in an offensive coordinator, get that coordinator some talent, and let's see if we're on the road back.

Oh, and we might want to quietly shop around for some offensive line coaches. The two we've got have great credentials, but I've never seen a Raider offensive line worse than this one.

I favor continuity, and think it's critical in establishing long-term success.

BUT, Art is overmatched as a head coach in this league.

I'd like to believe that things will trend upward with him retained as HC, but I don't think they will.

The Raiders were flat out OUTCOACHED in numerous games this year, and it was embarassing for Art Shell.
He was a freaking joke, man.

Shell did an awful job, and if you are Al, it's time to admit it was a bad hire and cut your losses.

I think a lot of the Nation is lukewarm on keeping Art just because he is ..... a Raiduh.

If he was someone from outside of the organization the fans would have been screaming for him to be fired mid-season.

He was THAT friggin' horrible as head coach, IMO.

It's my opinion that Art is finished as Raider head coach.

We'll see.

Raiders To Keep Shell To Spite Schefter

Man, do people really think that Adam Schefter will figure into this?
Give me a freakin' break. I'm with Joe Buck on this one.

RAIDERS TO KEEP SHELL TO SPITE SCHEFTER?

One of the theories making the rounds in league circles of late is that, if Raiders owner Al Davis had intended to fire coach Art Shell after the season, Davis might ultimately choose to keep Shell around -- merely in order to spite Adam Schefter of NFL Network, who reported on Thursday that Shell will be dumped.

It would be stupid, illogical, and nonsensical. But it would be classic Al Davis.

The Raiders think that Schefter, a former Broncos beat writer, is getting his information and/or marching orders from the franchise he previously covered. Davis and company promptly issued a pointed and biting statement calling out Schefter's report.

On Sunday, FOX's Howie Long (a former Raider) and Joe Buck (a current weenie) took some shots at Schefter on the air. Long called the information "third-hand," and Buck said, "Who's Adam Schefter?" -- a comment that reveals more about Buck's attention to league-related details than Buck might want the hardcore NFL fan to know.

Our guess? Shell isn't going anywhere. If for no reason other than that Davis will want Schefter to look foolish for reporting that Shell was done.

Joe Buck irritates the dogshit out of me, but I had to chuckle when I caught his comment about Schefter
