My sister just called and said that the nfl network is reporting that shell is getting a visit from the turk, but I can't find anything on it. Has anybody seen or heard anything?
 
Shefter just reported it on the NFLN.

End of the year apparently.
 
Three people already called me to say they heard it as well...


I just HOPE, that Al has a wink nod agreement with someone already in place IF this is indeed true.... The offense collapse was supposedly specifically mentioned... as was the possibility of Ryan getting a bump...


My thinking is that James Lofton being strongly considered for the Stanford job may make Al take a hard look at him... Too bad we missed out on Harbaugh...

Hold the fucking phone...

I heard the report live on NFL Netweork...he DIDN'T say he was going to be fired. He said that the orgianization would make a decision about what to do after the season was over. Sheese...He went on to say that Art may be in trouble for winning only two games and for the way he has handled the Porter and Moss situations. But he never said it was going to happen.

Frankly I doubt it. I don't think Al would do Art that way after that speech he gave at the new conference about how he had made a mistake canning Art the first time and the "Great Art Shell" yada, yada, yada...We'll see but I think Art gets another year. We can only hope they can entice some better OC to come in...

I don't think he'll be fired either... if a change is made we'll re-assign Art and frame it as an all in the plan promotion... Frankly, outright firing Art may do more hard than good as far as perception of the Raider franchise goes... Getting free agents in will be hard enough as it is...

I was hoping that 'something big' Al mentioned in his once a year talk would be Petrino, but my inner Willis is thinking is we'll see Art paired with Sean Jones in a psuedo GM role and Lofton brought in as head coach with Pete Carmichael his choice as the OC... Book it :cool:
 
do you think Art will be moving up after the season into Lombardi or some other of Al's advisor's role? I think Al has something up his sleeve for next season. Not sure what it is. could get ugly.

Supposedly off of ESPN radio:


"Raiders expected to release statement later today. Coach Shell may immediately step down due to diabetes related health complications."



My moms has diabetes... I really, really hope any report of it being health related for Art isn't true....
 
I guess wait for the org's response. If its a complete denial with a "Shell will be the head coach in 2007" then this is probably shot down. But if its "Shell is the current coach and things will be decided in the off-season" then this might have some legs.

This says to me the team is prepping to pounce on someone right when the season is over. If they already got an agreement done with somebody they still need to set up an interview with a minority if that person isn't a minority. Maybe they're worried "our next guy" might back out and look at some other jobs that could possibly be opening up, like Atlanta, if we don't seal the deal ASAP when the season is over.

This makes the most sense IMO but I don't buy the health issue thing. I suspect Cam Cameron and Lofton will be hot commodities this offseason especially if SD gets to the SB but my only concern is Lofton making a big jump from being a receivers coach to HC.
 
current NFL bar says something to the effect

Adam Schefter has Broncos connections with Mike Shannahan and does not have a reliable source within the raiders because that comes to one man... and that one man does not trust Adam.

Ohhh...Adam Schefter just on NFL Net and says it's true...Art Shell will be fired at the end of the season and if it isn't true all they had to say was that Art will be our coach in '07... :eek: I think he was mad.
 
Adam is standing by his story. Says if they wanna attack my credibility all the gotta due is issue a statement that "Art Shell will be the coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2007". I agree with him. I said in my post above if they said that this has no legs. If they say "no decision has been made" its in play.

I just hope Shefter didn't jack up any ongoing negotiations... I'm sure Bernard Petrino doesn't want his team finding out he's leaving before their Bowl game :p

Yep, on the NFL Network they're scrolling the story on the bottom of the screen as "Breaking News'...

Now if it turns our right the Raiders look like a buncha jerk offs denying the story. ::shakes head::
