CHIEFS NOTEBOOK | TEAM ADDS CORNERBACK
Arena star Brown joins KC
Another day, another new cornerback.
Former Arena Football League star Jerald Brown has agreed to a two-year contract with the Chiefs, entering the fray Tuesday.
Brown, who is 5 feet 11 and 185 pounds, was chosen AFL defensive player of the year in 2006 after recording 65 tackles, 11 interceptions and two fumble recoveries for the Columbus Destroyers.
“He’s a kid who has intercepted a lot of balls,” coach Herm Edwards said, “and went to a Division II school, Glenville State in West Virginia. He’s played in the Arena League a couple of years.”
• NO KAWIKA: Boomer Grigsby played with the No. 1 defense on Tuesday as middle linebacker Kawika Mitchell sat.
Edwards said Mitchell’s back tightened up on him, so he gave him the day off.
When offseason workouts wind down Thursday, there will be plenty of veterans resting. Edwards said he wants to give the younger players a final look before training camp.
“We don’t want to keep holding those guys up, because we have to make some decisions,” Edwards said. “We still have to cut probably seven players before we go to camp because we haven’t signed any of our draft choices. We’ve still got some hard decisions to make so we want to make sure we get everyone on tape so we can evaluate them properly.”
